Devastating storms

So sorry to hear of all the carnage & loss of life due to the storms & tornadoes that hit some states in America on Friday night. Kentucky, Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee to name a few. Seems that out of season, severe weather events are becoming the norm. I realise they’ve always happened but seem more intense these days. My heart goes out to all and hope that none of our TGN community were in its deadly path.😔

My heart also goes out to all those people affected. I'm counting my blessings today as my cousin and his family live just a few miles from some of the major destruction but thankfully are safe.
-
@Michelle D It is good to hear that they are okay.
-
Fortunately, they just found a pocket of survivors, so the projected death count should come down some.

I am in Tennessee and heard the "freight train" from an EF1 tornado traveling down the street behind my house. It was not as traumatic as the 62 mile long Nashville tornado 20 months ago (which came close too). I think that I would rather go back to the awful blizzards in the north over these traumatizing storms. I am sending light and love to those harmed by these tornadoes.
-
It was so sad to see the devastation, and it's so good they found more survivors. I called my family as soon as I heard and was happy they're fine. They're just east of it. They got terrible weather, but nothing more.
-
@Tave I'm glad to hear that your family is well!
-
Also counting my blessings here...lots of heavy rain and 20+ mph winds Saturday here.
-
ps: agree with @JodieDownUnder about our new intense weather becoming our new normal and @maryannfricko about traumatizing weather systems.
Highly recommend 2021 Netflix documentary with David Attenborough and Johan Rockstrom about the changes in our planet, and some hope about the situation: Breaking Boundaries: The Science of Our Planet.

I heard that "tornado alley" might be migrating east to states like Arkansas, Tennessee, and Missouri.
-
That was so terrible. I feel so sorry for those affected by this. Anyone know why this is happening? It seems like a strange time of year for it.

My heart goes out to those affected by the tornadoes.
Here in Washington state, in the county just north of where I live, there were families that lost everything in the flooding. So sorry for those folks too. Seems like an awful lot of destruction all around.

We just had wicked strong winds followed by a thunderstorm with rains at 52 degrees then the following morning high winds at 32 degrees that cooled to 16 with a snow flurry. Colorado had 100mph winds. And friends of ours that live in Kentucky stood in their bathtub as a tornado ripped the roof of their house off. They survived. They looked outside and saw that her car was on top of her husband’s car. I believe this is die to Global Warming, and crazy weather events are going to continue.

@SuperC Sorry to hear of your friends' home but thankful they are safe. Sounds like you were in another set of December tornadoes that blew across the Rockies and Midwest crossing 20 states, with the wind gusts you are reporting of up to 100 mph and tornadoes in Iowa. Less than a week after the set of tornadoes that hit Kentucky and 5 other states. I agree with you: I think all of these intense weather events that are now becoming more of what we see throughout the year in many places in the world are due to climate change that is destabilizing our weather and life as we know it, and also, that this will continue unless there are significant changes.
-
@Udi315 Carpooling would be essential now in order to decrease carbon emissions and cease felling trees and allow cattle to roam the prairies so that grasslands can regrow. Together humans can solve the problem of these devastating storms only if we act now.
-
@SuperC Yes, all of these things would help our planet, and ultimately, us, and life on this planet to move into a long-term more sustainable living. Together we can become so powerful.
United We (*can*) Stand...
What do you guys think it will take for us to come out of our hypnotic trance to take action?

MOD HAT ON:
Considering that the climate change subject is a highly charged and very political topic, l have to ask that the discussion on it ends here as political discussion is not allowed according to our rules.
This forum is about growing your own food and medicine. It is about respect for the soil, plants and animals in your immediate circle, simplicity and hard work, and teaching others how to be independent in these skills. It is not a place to discuss political controversy.
Whether one believes a person can change the course of nature or not, one thing we all agree on is that we can become proficient by growing our own, learning basic skills, becoming independent (and in some cases, interdependent with like-minded people).
If you wish to discuss the highly charged topic known as climate change, please take the discussion elsewhere. There are many other venues to do so.
Thank you for respecting our rules.

These storms were terrible and so close to Christmas. I have seen people showing good will towards others and many charities/ relief organizations have deployed to help! Helping others is the true spirit of Christmas after all!
-
My thoughts are certainly with those who have lost so much. It is good help is going out to them. I hope each person receives exactly what they need in support.
-
I was in total shock about the devastation. I am glad to know that they found a pocket of survivors.
