Question: growing my own mushrooms

I would very much like to grow my own mushrooms. What? Another chore??? you might be thinking. Here's the thing, I have looked on my fav site to buy healthful things, and they are perpetutally out of all forms of shrooms as a supplement. So after reading one of the posts some minutes ago it dawned on me that I should have been asking this here...

Where can I get high quality shroom starting kits to grow myself without having to depend on getting good mushrooms from outside my own realm?

All answers so much appreciated.

@silvertipgrizz The mushroom kit I used came from the following site. But they only ship within Canada. I didn't do any research into US kits because I assumed anything fungal would be difficult to import.

Paul Stamets is one of the best known mushroom experts and his site "Fungi Perfecti" is selling kits. I would recommend his products.

@silvertipgrizz mushroom growing kits seem to be growing in popularity. I have seen them all over online and in several of the big box stores, including ACE Hardware, if you prefer to get one in person. I would bet even local nurseries might carry them. I am not sure where you live, but spores may be an option you to place on some damp rotted down logs. The only place I am aware to get those is online. Do you know what kind of mushroom you want to grow? I am patiently waiting as my daughter said something about getting us some for Christmas…..

Thank you all very much! Yesterday I spent some time looking at ideas from torey and gardneto76, today I'll check judson's recommendation...

I'm not just hoping to start growing my own shrooms, but hoping it will help me to recognize them in the wild so I can hunt them myself.

@silvertipgrizz guess what my daughter got me for Christmas. It was so funny that I mentioned it on here, but a few days ago I received a late Christmas present of a Golden Oyster Mushroom growing kit. It is from a different website than Judson mentioned. This is what I have after 3 days of just misting the top. This morning I can recognize actual mushrooms! Let us know you how mushroom growing adventure is doing.
