Respiratory Support for COVID Aftermath
Some people seem to be dealing with severe lung damage after recovering from COVID. A friend’s family member died after no longer having the virus, and the doctor said it was directly related to damage COVID did to his lungs.
When I started looking for herbs that support the respiratory system, the challenge I had was finding what’s available in my area. In the States, there are more resources available. However, we usually have to use what grows where we live in other countries.
Common plants in South America are plantago major (plantain), Buddleja globosa (matico or orange ball tree), Achyrocline satureioides (macela or wira wira), guava leaf, loquat leaf, eucalyptus, and grape leaf. That’s all I can remember at the moment. Some naturalists are recommending borage, too.
I made tea, soup, or vapor with what I had available, but I’d like to know if there are more effective ways to prepare them. I also thought it would be nice to have a list of herbs native to the many countries TGN members live in.

@Tave Following is a link to a list of Latin American herbs being used to treat respiratory symptoms associated with COVID. A bit north of you but there must be some similar plants.

Great information. Pneumonia left mom with lung issues. I have been looking for herbs to help out. She did have water outside her right lung but I got that down and its almost gone. Tumeric and ginger helped a lot with that.

I would recommend growing Codonopsis/Dang Shen, thyme, licorice, angelica, mullein, coltsfoot and pleurisy root wherever you live if at all possible.

I always kill thyme for some reason, but I can get it dried. My plant id app says we have coltsfoot growing wild here. Not sure about the rest, though I now have licorice seeds, so as soon as I have time to take good care of seedlings, I'll plant them.

I made this tea with the herbs I had. It actually tasted good and felt good.
Handful each:
loquat leaves (could be replaced with grape leaves)
guava leaves
plantain leaves
matico leaves
2-inch piece of ginger, thinly sliced
small cinnamon stick
tablespoon whole cloves
Cover with clean water and simmer for 30 minutes. Turn off heat and throw in a handful of lemon balm.
Let steep until lukewarm, then strain and keep refrigerated in a jar. Fill a cup quarter full, finish filling with boiling water. I like to make a concentrate to save time later and try to use it all within three days.
