Our stores are seeing food shortages.

There is also a lot of unrest & increasing discrimination in our country as many of you may be aware. These truckers are coming together to take a stand against it all in a big statement that can't be ignored.

They will be crossing Manitoba on Tuesday morning and are already coming from east, west, south, & north to meet at Canada's capital. We are on the western route.

They have fundraised close to $3,000,000 for supporting their journey.

We will be watching them roll by on Tuesday. We won't miss it as this is a once in a lifetime event.

So exciting!

@torey Were you able to see the beginning?

We were told that we can take part by getting together individually wrapped cookies & sandwiches to hand out to the truckers. I'm not sure if we will be taking part in that part (we have to drive further & congestion could prove to be an issue), but the kids are pretty excited that prospect. Possibly we could deliver them to someone else to take along.

What a great & important homeschool project. One to be remembered.

I think we will be doing our famous fluffy whole grain sugar cookies in a maple leaf shape, of course, with a tasty glaze. I don't know why everyone raves about them being superior. Maybe it's the nutty flavor of the grains? 🤷‍♀️ We like them, "famous" or not. 😋

We could do buns, but don't have anything other than egg or pb to put in them. With the possibly of allergies, I'd rather not do that.

Truckers from the US? Hmm. Then there will possibly be some coming up by way of the Peace Gardens. Cool.

I've read about it. And yes, a lot of the world is fed up with the restrictions. That is a historic event. Definitely a homeschooling / teaching moment. We live in a historic time in general.

No, @LaurieLovesLearning. I didn't see anything here but have seen it on the news. Very strange that the CTA is not supporting them. I hope they get their message across.

@LaurieLovesLearning That's great that you guys are bringing them food!

I saw a video last night of people lining the sides of the highway in support of the truckers.

Some of the cookies...130+ We said we should have done hearts too.

Sandwiches will be made up early tomorrow morning & delivered.

These are the temps we will be waiting in, but it's worthwhile.

I read that the world record for a truckers convoy is something like 580. Their estimate for this one is 50,000+ at their destination, and estimated at approx. 78 km of trucks. Of course, this could all change. This is historic on many levels.

These are very brave people. Things are going to be far from easy for them at their destination from what I'm hearing.

@LaurieLovesLearning Your cookies look great! I bet they'll love them. It's great to see people standing up and supporting them. I saw a good video on Rumble on Rebel News - convoy report. Hope to see more of that here as well.

@judsoncarroll4 I watched the entire rally. You had to know where to find it. Sadly, you aren't going to see any of these things on the news here. If you want to share some of the speakers with people look on Rumble for KanekoaTheGreat. They're all there.

LaurieLovesLearning From the report I read the truckers from the US who cannot get through the boarder to Ottawa will be massing "AT" the border. Very happy to see the support from US truckers and some regular folks as well.

@vickeym Yes, that's what I'm reading. @judsoncarroll4 There are 625 truckers from SC alone and many more convoys from many other states that are heading to the border. I am seeing approx 1000 estimated so far.

Now 60,000 trucks are now expected to join the convoy. It will most likely still increase. They estimate approx. 1/2 million people being at the end in support of the effort.

    @kbmbillups1 I watch there & now I'm watching on Telegram. I don't have FB.

The cookies taste good. Of course, we had to sample some. 😋

It looks like we will go meet them at the food stop now. The kids are pretty geared up to be a part of this and didn't bat an eye when I asked if they wanted to bake for it, but went right to it.

The smear campaign is also in full swing and there are a few things already being done to try to slow them down or stop them. They are being blamed for the shortages. Blockades are ready on the roads way outside the capital & there is the threat of military possibly being called in. The truckers want to keep this peaceful, but still stand firm. People are coming out like never before to support them.

If I'm understanding correctly, 10,000 truckers from Kentucky, Tennessee, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia are coming to at least 3 crossings.

They are saying stock up on food (already ready!).

The military has given orders to their people to stand down. The OPP (Ontario provincial police) has also said they will stand down.

The PM tried to shut down the gofundme, supposedly. It didn't happen and they are now over $4M and counting.

@marjstratton 😄 Of course. It's too bad they aren't coming through tomorrow instead. This is today (7:30am):

...making it downright "balmy" when we are there:

Tomorrow's high is +1°C (then right back down again). Ah, but we don't control the weather.

Food has been delivered. We are now waiting with our biggest flag. Arrival should be within 15 minutes. We are watching trucks gather to join.

I will try to post a link to a video if I can load one onto somewhere.

@LaurieLovesLearning cookies, Canadian Maples with icing. Thoughtful and warm-hearted you are, thank you for you and for sharing your baking skill with many people!

@SuperC It was totally our pleasure.

On Convoy to Ottawa 2022 (Telegram), there was awesome airplane footage posted at 5:54.

We saw 2 airplanes up over us today. I suspect that footage was from Alberta where they get frequent chinooks. We have tons of snow!

    @LaurieLovesLearning What are chinooks?

  • LaurieLovesLearning
    LaurieLovesLearning Posts: 7,374 admin

@SuperC We experience an interior chinook to the east of the Rockies. It usually only goes as far as kind of midway through Saskatchewan. Alberta has them often. We don't see them this far away in Manitoba.

This is such an amazing example of the power of the people against the elite regardless of the media coverage or lack thereof. This feels huge and sure to invoke change.

I guess I’m late to the conversation but it made me cry. It’s so good to see people finally come together to fight this.

@LaurieLovesLearning I’m not Canadian, but I sure do love maple-flavored anything and that recipe sounds great... feel free to share 😉

  • LaurieLovesLearning
    LaurieLovesLearning Posts: 7,374 admin

@Megan Venturella It isn't maple flavored, just maple leaf shaped. But, it wouldn't be hard to add the flavor to either the cookies or the glaze. I personally think it would be better in the glaze. If you still want the recipe, let me know.

Today, the kids are putting together a 3D truck cake. 😄 We've done other 3D cakes before (combine, bulldozer, tractor, Toe Mater). This will just be one more to add to our experience.

This reminds me, @Marjory Wildcraft, when I was a teen, I made a garden cake for my grandpa, who was a fantastic gardener who also made his own gardening tools. I still have some of his hoes. 🥰

A chocolate pound cake was my base, and I "planted" veggies by cutting appropriate sized cuts into the top of the cake & filled them in with the correct colors. Then I decorated the top with appropriate veggie greenery and some "lettuce". No weeds. He had no weeds in his garden. I fashioned together a mini shovel and hoe as well.

This would be a cool cake for your next birthday.

Yes, LaurieLovesLearning, the cookie recipe would be great!

It is amazing and brings so much hope to everyone to see how many are coming together in solidarity. Not only those joining the convoy but those supporting it from all over the world.

Would also love a picture of your truck cake. I used to decorate and made many custom shaped cakes back when the specialty shaped cake pans were just starting to come out in lots of shapes. My favorite one I did for thanksgiving was a turkey with all the trimmings. Baked it in an oven proof bowl the cut and shaped. Made fondant carrots, peas and crab apples to go with it. Stuffing was made from cake crumbs.
