FDA Approves GMO Meat for Eating

This makes no sense.
If there are already cattle with shorter haired coats, why not either just raise those in hotter climates or try to naturally cross this into another? Hybridization is part of what is often done in livestock circles to supposedly/hopefully get what is considered the best traits. Thus is also how new breeds are developed.
I think the "science" industry just likes patents & money and doesn't want to do the work properly.
There is absolutely no reason to GMO the cattle for this purpose.

We really need an icon for horrified.
-
I agree @Mary Linda Bittle, West Plains, Missouri this is horrifying!
@LaurieLovesLearning Yes, there's no reason that we can see thinking as regular folks for them to do this.
I try to buy grass fed organic but that's hard to find.

Oddly enough my oldest did a debate in her class a few weeks about GMO's. She learned quite a bit and is horrified and disgusted by what she found. Now she has a newfound sense of the term sci-fi. 😵

This makes me really glad that I have a local source for beef that I can trust.
-
@JennyT Upstate South Carolina I'm glad your daughter is learning about GMOs. Most people are clueless.
-
@kbmbillups1 Once bioengineering starts, where does it stop? Like others have mentioned, why do this, when there are perfectly capable breeds of cattle to fit the situation.
My concern is labelling. In Australia, labelling is very average, doesn’t tell consumers all they need to know! In the last paragraph of this story it states, “mandating disclosure of the presence of SOME bioengineered ingredients on labels” what does SOME mean??
-
I signed petition after petition, first to reject the genetic manipulation, then to at least label the "food" appropriately.
Obviously my efforts did no good.
-
@JodieDownUnder I'm pretty sure a bill was passed here in the US making it, so they don't have to label any GMOs back before or as all this craziness was starting 2 years ago.
@shllnzl I know how you feel.

@LaurieLovesLearning @Mary Linda Bittle, West Plains, Missouri @shllnzl Just read another article about this GMO meat. Says the gene editing created a "mess"!!

Hey, if you click on the smiley face in the lower left corner, you can find all sorts of icons!

I don't understand why people keeping destroying our food sources, it is things like this that make me happy I am a vegetarian that also does not eat dairy.
-
@kbmbillups1 This is ridiculous!
I worked for a company that developed "newer & better supplies" .. I ran tests on their samples. One particular sample had a problem,---every time I handled it, same problem. I reported it and was told FDA had approved (25 people in sample), and they were starting to manufactor and sell. Wasn't long before the complaints started rolling in. Twenty -five people????? no problem, I was the 26th and I had a big problem. Obviously a lot of people had a problem!
-
@water2world I wish there was a WOW button! I also wish what we the people thought about this mattered and would changed it!
-
This is all about patenting. You can't patent a breed unless you genetically modify it. At this rate we won't be legally allowed to grow anything ourselves. This technology could be used for so much good, but instead they have chosen to use it for greed. 😞
