Mouth sores help?

Yikes, I've got a really painful sore on the side of my tongue.

I keep thinking ah this thing will heal itself in no time. Well, it's been almost a week and super painful.

Anyone have any good home remedies for this?

And yes I'm taking Lysiene.

Thanks,

    Homeopathic Natrum muriaticum (Nat-mur).

I hate those. I'd continue with the Lysine and add some lemon balm and perhaps some St. John's Wort. I'd even put SJW oil directly on the sore. Good luck.

    Stop biting your tongue.

Have a dropper of Yarrow tincture now and then. Yarrow is good in the mouth.

We rinse our mouths with an iodine wash and kind of keep it in that area for a few seconds. Sometimes we have to do it a couple times but it works great!

I put salt on them when I get a canker sore. It hurts really bad for a minute, but then it will heal so much faster. You can also drink some aloe water after that and it will help. I am unfortunately an expert in this arena. 🙃

Dilute a little H2O2 with water and swish it around. My mom used to do this for sore throats too. She was a nurse back in the good old days.

@Marjory Wildcraft how about colloidal silver mouthwash. I make up some with a few drops of peppermint EO.

Agrimony is good - I just did a podcast on it today!

If it it not going away after 2 weeks, this is something you should probably see a dentist about simply to make sure it is not cancer. Oral cancer is very common and they will screen for it at the dentist. The sooner you catch it the better.

@stephanie447 Yes, a very important point.

@Marjory Wildcraft How is it doing? Any change?

I frequently have raw ulcers on the right side of my tongue. I don't bite my tongue. I think it is most prevalent when my gut is out of balance such as when I have to take antibiotics. My dentist has looked at it and says it is not cancer. I will definitely be watching this thread for suggestions. My go to is to really watch what I eat when I get these lesions.

Hi @Cornelius ohh that does sound painful I wonder if I numbed the area first with a spylanthum (sp?) tincture or even a simple benzocaine spray I found at the drugstore. Numb it first then salt it? .

Hi @LaurieLovesLearning it is getting better. And @stephanie447 yes I am working with my dentist on this. I don't get them internally often (although if you look through the years of videos I do get lip blisters - always when I am really stressed).

This also came on just after a bunch of dental work and my whole mouth was stressed. Also I was just exhausted. I am going to cut back on the heavy travel schedule. Yikes!

Thank you everyone for all these suggestions.

I have a lipectomy and a frenectomy coming up in a few weeks and I know I'll need all these resouces to deal with that painful experience. @torey I'm going to find that Homeopathic Natrum muriaticum (Nat-mur)

@judsoncarroll4 I am going to listen to your podcast on agrimony - I have never heard of it before...

and @Cornelius thanks for that slat suggestion. I have found that salt water rinses help tremendously. I needed to do them almost hourly for it to help significantly but hey it did help.

And @JodieDownUnder the dentist sent me home (really great holistic dentist!) with a colloidal silver solution which I've been using to keep everything clean.

@Marjory Wildcraft when my own tinctures do not help, I use good old TCP. I buy it when I am in England. I do not know whether it is available in the US. It has helped me with very bad ulcers in mouth. It says “dab diluted”. For a bad sore I use not diluted.

@jowitt.europe Oh, my. You have brought up some memories. My mother and family are from Scotland (actually my mother was born in Canada but they returned to Scotland when she was 4) and this was one of my mum's favourite products. She'd get aunts to send her tubes of the cream version in Christmas packages. Then later, when it became less expensive to travel to Britain, she would bring back whatever she could carry. She would put it on all cuts, wounds, rashes, burns, etc. Personally, I can't stand the smell of it! Even though I haven't been around it in at least 20 years, I can still pull up the memory of the smell. Its a strong enough memory that I think I can actually smell it. Yuck.

@torey I agree! It does have a very strong and specific smell. Some say, it smells as if a house is on fire 😉. But it also helps. I am convinced. I had really bad gums around wisdom tooth. All swollen. I needed to dab twice and it was gone.

Actually my husband introduced TCP to me. He is a great fan of England and whatever comes from there. The first thing we bought there was TCP.

it is funny how smells bring back memories. I loved the book by Marcel Proust “remembrance of things past” or “in search of lost time”. How sounds, smells bring back memories.

I don't get the ulcers so much as I get several small sore raised patches on my tongue after I eat or drink things. Used to think it was just acidic things, but some days I think it is almost anything I eat or drink. Will have to start a journal at somepoint and track everything to see if there is any pattern. They go away in about a half hour or so but they are very tender and painful when they are there.

Wow. This has all been good information. @Marjory Wildcraft it sounds like you hit the nail on its head figuring out the trigger of stress to the problem of the mouth sore. Where you able to use salt? What had you used to treat it for its reduction?

@Marjory Wildcraft I'm glad it helped! I hope that you don't have any more to deal!

I have found that swilling with pure 100% cranberry juice and even rubbing the juice into the sore with your tongue while in your mouth, cleans the culprit right out. I use this on ulcers all the time and once the invading bacteria is gone the mouth heals itself. May take a couple of goes but works a treat!!

Cranberry's super power is that it detaches/disassociates bateria etc from whatever tissue it's adhered to, and once it is free it can be flushed out with fluids. This is why it works so well for UTI's. :-)

This is a very cheap as well as effective solution!!

@KarenGray I've never thought of using it for sores in the mouth, but yes, that makes perfect sense!

Hi @SuperC I wasn't brave enough to do the full slat but found that increasing the frequency of the slat water rinses (and the strength of those solutions with slat content) helped tremendously.

I am going to get a frenectomy next month (yikes that is super painful) so all of this is going to be very useful very soon. Although my myofunctional therapist told me I should not try to heal it too quickly - i.e. not have the frenum grow back!

BTW for those of you that don' know, a myofunctional therapist helps you to learn a proper swallow chewing and use of jaw lips tongue etc. Being bottle fed at birth got me into some bad habits which I am working now to change.

@Marjory Wildcraft I'm glad that you feel better and that it healed! You could numb it first. I usually use a Q-tip, rinse it under water, dip into some salt, and then apply directly to the sore (it burns!) I have to do this a few times (usually 3) and then it heals.
