Asking for door to door handouts - humor of sorts

So last year I downsized my animals. I had 4 ducks left. They were actually my favorite but no one wanted them. And what great layers they have turned out to be!~

Well, lately the ducks have started coming to the front door in the morning to get a snack or let me know they feel it's meal time. I don't really like this as it puts them closer to the road but if I don't give them a bit of food they head to the road.

Yesterday the heard their quacking and figured I needed to toss them a handful of food. I looked out the window and saw 2 of my ducks and visitors! I also had 2 mallards. I gingerly opened the door and tossed out some food. The mallards were a bit bashful but a free meal made them stick around. The other 2 ducks quickly joined the group and I gave them a little more.

With Avian flu around I was concerned but To have 2 strange ducks come for a meal made me laugh and feel they deserved a meal.

They left after they had their snack and I have net seen them since.

You make me feel better with your story.

One of my cats meows in the morning until I get up to feed her.

The wild birds start to gather when they see me in the yard, basically begging me to feed them some seed. They definitely recognize individual humans, since they don't do that when my husband is out.

@Monek Marie Hopefully all is fine after the visitors left. Not all wild migrating birds will carry it.

It's a fun story! I'm almost sad they didn't stick around. I wonder if they will stop by on their way back through in fall, or next spring? If one was a drake, maybe you'll get mixed babies if someone decides to lay & then set. That would be fun.

I have a couple of rowens that come to my backdoor and yell for snacks. I usually see them running towards the house from the window before hand. One day I thought I heard them by the back door. When I went out I was surprised to realize there were a couple mallards in the spot where I usually put the snacks. I laughed a lot. At first I didn't realize they were not my ducks! They also have not been back. Ducks are so fun!

I would not be surprised to see them again. The creek is a haven to ducks. I never know what I will see down there. My ducks stay away from the creek and I am glad. I don;t trust the kayakers not to bother them.

@Michelle D I enjoy the ducks. They make me laugh with their antics.

I'd really like some runner ducks but no one locally sells them.

@Monek Marie Aah, I love ducks. I have loved them since I was a child. As a teenager, I was involved in a forum for people who kept ducks in the house as pets. These ducks wore diapers.

It is my dream to someday be able to have ducks. I don`t know if that will ever happen, but I hope that it does! I would love to have ducks come to my door, though I understand your concerns about the wild ducks and your domestic ducks.

I was looking at ducks on a few hatchery websites last week. My son and I looked at the runner ducks. They stand so tall!

MY one friend rescued an injured duck. It would come in at night and watch tv with the family. In the fall it took off to warmer areas. The next spring it came back. It left again in the fall and the followinmt year it came back with a family. That was the last time it returned.

@Michelle D Runner ducks are hysterical to watch and very fast. That is one reason I have not gotten any. Their getting in the road concerns me.

@Monek Marie that would be a huge concern for me also!
