Thought this article would be a good one to post since we have several members with newer homesteads. School will soon be out and kids will need something to do.

Oh yes, great idea @RustBeltCowgirl we have a tire swing. It is one of the kids favorite summer activities. We almost need a second one.

We had a tire swing on out one tree in the side yard. It has been there (replaced a few time) for 3 generations and is still popular.

@RustBeltCowgirl have tyre swans ever made it big in your area? In Australia it was popular for a while, every now & then a resurgence happens!

Our big problem on our property is that we've got lots of fruit trees, but none of them are really big/sturdy enough to support a bunch of kids having a blast on a tire swing. A couple of the apricot trees might have worked for that had they been pruned differently when they were young, but that was well before our time. (We also have some huge spruce trees, but they don't really lend themselves to swings, either.) So for now, we just use playground structures for these types of things. But it really makes me appreciate how important it is to plant big, sprawling trees for the next generation!

@JodieDownUnder I have never seen a swan planter. Up here, we have a lot that are cut on the side wall and turned inside out to look like flowers.

I may have to try that and see the reaction it gets.

It's been decades since I've seen tire swings commonly used.

It's almost as cheap, quick and easy to suspend a short, flat board with a couple holes for a rope on each end, and have a more comfortable swing. This is what my father put up for us when I was a kid.

I’m going to check out the tire swan idea. And, if its not too difficult, I’m going to attempt making one, two, or more. What a fun idea!
