Cheap meat prices at Piggly Wiggly this week (it is a southern chain)

Here is the weekly sale flyer for Piggly Wiggly. With prices so high in every other store, even with gas prices up, this is worth a drive if you have one even an hour away. $1.99 ground beef and Springer Mountain Farm Chicken leg quarters 20 lbs for 11.50 after the coupon. Good pork prices, too. I just put 50 lbs in the freezer - would have bought 4 times as much if I had freezer space!

I was just looking at our flyers as well. Some have some great sales and I am thinking it is time to stock up the freezers. I was excited for $0.99 per pound for chicken quarters here.

Hard to find "good" meat for a good price though. Maybe the local farmer will have a sale😅.

WOW! Great prices. Our ground beef is $4.69 and bacon is about $8.00 and some of the packages are not even a pound. Chicken leg quarters was around $3.99 a pound and may be more by now. Since I raise my own I haven't bought chicken in years.

Contact a local butcher. You'll get much better prices if you can buy a half or full steer or pig. The least expensive chicken we've found is usually at Sam's Club.

Wish we had a Piggly Wiggly around! Sam's Club does have the best prices I've found locally on organic grass-fed beef -- $5/pound. I've looked at purchasing whole or part steers, but around here you have to pay for hanging weight and butchering costs, and for us at least, we end up with some cuts that sit in the freezer for years. In the end, I've found it to be most economical to just purchase grass-fed, grass-finished ground beef straight from a local rancher at $6/pound. I like supporting her, but it's nice to know I can get smaller amounts for $1 less per pound at the local Sam's Club.
