Rain, rain go away...

After two very dry drought years, we are getting rain and more rain. Everyone is calling for the taps to be turned off.

Everything is now beyond saturated. Many areas to the east & south in my province are continuing to be flooded. I think most fields finally got done being seeded here finally, although that’s late. Most fields to the east, however, were not even worked and I wonder how many here will end up possibly drowning. They should have planted rice.

We don't ever get as much precipitation right where we are in comparison to everyone else. I guess this year, that's a good thing.

The grass is ready for haying already, which is early, but it's too wet to cut & dry it.

I'm hearing reports of 7" in many areas that are nowhere close to each other. We have yet to check ours tonight, but at last count, we had about 2" (we are still on saturated ground and it rained a lot today again), but I am not complaining about that! My garden is still happy. The weeds & grass are too (I will complain about that), but at least the transplants have taken & things are up. Nothing has rotted yet. It would be good if I could get into the garden, though.

It has been quite cool as well with some moderate temperatures at times, but by this weekend, we could have a few days in the mid to upper 30s (°C). I'm expecting the return of our big summer storms with all of this moisture. They both scare me & thrill me. It's a strange mix.

Anyway, that's how things stand right now. The rain is to continue tonight and possibly tomorrow, on the weekend and after the weekend at least through their forecast period.

We have been wetter than usual as well, @LaurieLovesLearning. Very few days without rain. There are only two days in the next week that are forecast to be without precipitation.

A flood watch has been issued for several areas in BC. There have been a couple of evacuation orders due to high water and Kelowna has declared a state of emergency due to Mission Creek breaching its banks. A young woman and her dog are missing after walking too close to the creek.

Even with the flooding that we have, the lower temps are making for a slow run-off. If it had warmed up too quickly we might have been in much worse situation, particularly in the Lower Mainland where the ground is still super saturated from November's floods.

Its been a slow start for our garden. It may have been too cold when we planted beets. They haven't come up well and one whole bed has been replanted. The cabbage family is liking it, though. As are the weeds. Everything is very green. Thick, lush looking hay, but as with you, it is too wet to cut. Its been a challenge to get out picking. Everything is just so drenched.

Really incredible thunderstorm passed through last night. Didn't get us nearly as bad but our nearest town sure got hit. This is a pic of the hail (we didn't get hail in our immediate community). I really feel for all the gardeners.

I saw a pic with much deeper water than this but can't find it again.

Some of the stores in lower spots had water running in their doors.

I saw some amazing videos of the storm in action but can't figure out how to post them here.

I've heard one place just over 1 hr away has now proclaimed a state of emergency due to the flooding. This is in that area.

Hmm...now we are going to get hot, starting tomorrow, still with rain in the forecast.

The weeds are strong & many and are already taller than my garden veggies. It will be a fight! 😑

I see a lot of big thunderstorms ahead with the heat & all that moisture just sitting around. We've missed hail already, twice. I hope that good fortune continues. But, it could get interesting, nonetheless.

Oh my! Wish we could relieve some of the excess for you. We are getting pretty desperate for rain here. Have had only a couple light showers here this spring. Lots of fires currently burning across the state here.

@LaurieLovesLearning @torey sorry to hear that. Rain, hail, heat… That must be very challenging for the farmers.

we do have rain, heat, some hail, but in moderation compared to your area. The berries start boiling on the shrubs: got soaked with much rain and now boil in the heat. I might have to cover my black currant shrubs during very hot days and that is today and tomorrow.

We were out just past that area today to pick something up. Its wet.

While we were on our way, almost to our destination, a neighbor called and said they saw our cows. We were 2+ hours away. That's always when something will happen if its going to. They may have gotten out before we left, and we left long before milking time (we had a milker at home). We continued and hoped the neighbors could at least hold our cows in their fence.

We got back, neighbors are seeding, our cows are nowhere to be seen. Do, we went for a short drive to find them standing together in some ash in an unseeded field, in the hot sun and high wind.

It was quite an adventure walking them back, especially with some traffic appearing and with the heat...and that they have a mind of thier own. It was about 2 miles along the road to home.

They are in the fence. The first thing they went for was water, of course. The cow is very eager to be milked, but needs to relax from her field & road trip.

All of us are now resting up and getting a bit of a break before finishing up our long day.

It is not cloudy, but there is a strong haze.

Also, I have never seen that much hail! Thanks for posting those pictures. Hope your weather conditions improve soon!

So, here is the storm. They are predicting a supercell storm, with potentially all the "goodies" that come with it, to be over our area by 6pm tomorrow evening.

My garden has everything up. Here's hoping we skirt the bad stuff.

@vickeym we are in the same boat. We live in SW Colorado, and the current drought conditions have lasted 22 years here. I am ready for this weather cycle to break and to have the drought end! We did get some rain this past weekend and it was heavenly. The monsoonal patterns are starting to move in this year, so that will be very nice. :)

The weather has been ugly here too in the Pacific Northwest off of I-5. All of the above has happened-higher than normal rain; super storm and finally some days with sun. I was so happy to see the sun this morning. Yep, it will get hot suddenly and be in the 70's for a day or two and then come the 80's.

Hmm, @Merin Porter Yet we have had so many "Colorado lows" go through in the past months, with extremely high moisture. We'd gladly send them back now!

We missed the hail & tornado(s) yesterday. The heat & humidity were quite something! Today was cooler, but more rain is coming tonight. I don't want any more. One corner if my garden is looking like it will most likely driwn if we get more. Even with what's there, I'm suspecting that it won't survive at this point. ☹️

We have also been having crazy amount of rain this year in western Washington. Today, it hasn't rained but it has been partly cloudy most of the day. The grass is growing like crazy. My husband watches the forecast and get out quickly on the days that it isn't raining to mow the lawn before the rain starts again, usually later in the day. Don't have any idea if our neighbor will be able to mow our field for hay this year.

We've actually had rain several days in a row, with rain forecasted daily for the foreseeable future. It's early in the year for daily rain, and people are trying to figure out when they can bring in the hay. It's so nice to get the rain, because we need it desperately, but it does bring up some questions for farmers.....

Right now, it looks like we will finally have a stretch of dry weather. Our roads are dry, even if some fields are not. At least ditch hay could be cut.

And like @water2world said, I've never seen so much hail before in my life either.😲

Here in Upstate South Carolina, we're in a drought. We've not had any decent, consistent rain in months. And lately, it just seems to tease us and drop enough to make everything damp but not give us the considerable amount that we so desperately need.😕
