How would you use fresh figs?
On our new property here we have fig trees. It's nice to have them and they taste wonderful. However the only fig recipes I seem to have called for dried figs. I've tried making a recipe with fresh instead of dried and I know why they call for dried figs. π² And so does my husband. π€
Do any of you have some recipes I could try? We have more figs getting ripe and I really would like to be able to do something with them.

I love them with thinly sliced ham and blue cheese! Pork chops cooked with figs, butter and white wine are excellent, too.

Oh my! I would not be able to leave the house during the season. I love fresh figs, but they are best in moderation. That being said I think I would try my hand a fig jam to preserve them. I have a newly planted fig tree so I am interested in everyoneβs suggestions as well.

@judsoncarroll4 Ham & blue cheese, do you make a sandwich with all three? Pork chops, I can see that being quite tasty. Would you add veggies in with the pork? Or is it roasting with the white wine and figs by itself?π€

@gardneto76 My mom just made several half pints of fig jam from the figs she received from her next-door neighbor's tree! I'll have to keep that in mind too.π

I love figs! You're so lucky to have them! I have 2 fig trees but haven't gotten the first fig. My friend gave me gallon bags full of them recently. I ate probably 12 or so right then. I love them fresh. I put a bunch in the freezer to make jam and kombuchas.

I agree, they are best in moderation. @JennyT Upstate South Carolina They are delicious on flatbreads and pizzas with white sauces. They are delicious eaten all by themselves. They tend to be tender and soft to the touch, yum! You have great treats!

@kbmbillups1 We make our own kombucha too! I'll have to see about putting some in the freezer to try in our kombucha too. Thanks for that suggestion.π

Wow, sounds like a great treat. I don't think I've ever had a fresh one. I love the dried ones so I can imagine the fresh would be delicious. I'm thinking I could be jealous here. lol

My mother-in-law used to have a fig tree in her back yard. She'd dry them and when we came to visit, she'd send us home with bread-bags full of figs. It has been years since she passed. I would like to get a fig tree going in my yard since I really miss them.

@JennyT Upstate South Carolina Oh my, I am soooo jealous!! Many years ago, we had figs, but it was a constant battle with birds getting the ripe ones. (The birds ended up winning ! π )

@judsoncarroll4 My family loves ham and cheese! We'll have to give this little twist on it a try.
And I have leftover white wine from when we made that liqueur with the black walnuts earlier this summer so I'm going to try to see if I can make that this weekend for them. I have some nice fresh onions from my friend's farm I'll use in it too. I don't recall seeing any pork chops in the freezer but maybe a little pork roast will do for now.πποΈ

@JennyT Upstate South Carolina my fav fig recipe is the following. Figs wrapped in prosciutto or any thin bacon & stuffed with goats cheese. I keep the figs whole but cut the top downwards in 1/2 & in 1/2 again, sort of like a star. Then I wrap a slice of prosciutto around the fig. Then stuff a teaspoon of soft goats cheese into the star. Place however many figs on baking paper in a tray, drizzle with a balsamic glaze & bake in a mod oven for 20 mins & then serve, make great finger food. Iβve been known to serve these up with a salad for dinner. A yummy flavour bomb.

I have eaten fresh figs and they are delicious. I remember some form of fig jam with walnuts I think. The jam was from when I was little-a long time ago! Eating in figs in moderation is a must!

@judsoncarroll4 The pork roast was a hit!
I placed it in my crock pot with white wine, figs, and onion. It cooked on low all day and it smelled divine. I made wild rice and fresh steamed green beans almondine to go along with it. The family scarfed it down.π
