Totally off-topic, but I'm getting a haircut~ got any suggestions for style?
Hey, I've decided that 25 years with the same hair style in enough.
So I'm getting a haircut.
Now my hair is straight, super fine, and thick. Which means I always wanted curly hair - you know how that goes right?
But sigh, I know I'm never going to achieve any "poof" in my hairstyle without gabs of work. And I'm not into gabs of work on style. I have too much else to do.
If you have any suggestions for a new look, please let me know! Post up photos of what you think would be good.
Also, I want to remind you that on my 60th birthday I'm going to dye my hair purple.
I know, I know, totally opposite from the granola girl image. But hey. Quite a few years ago I was in Denver Colorado on the sidewalk and this totally ripped grandma comes zipping by with matching purple inline skates, shorts, sports bra, and purple hair. I turned to my friend and said "when I turn 60 I'm going to be her".
Uh, I am working on the totally ripped part. Hmm, maybe I should stop with the potato chips I'm snacking on right now. LOL
Thank God this stuff grows out eventually so it's not a huge commitment (like a tattoo which my daughter has been bugging me about for years).
But I'm giving you notice. Don't be shocked. OK?
So please upload you suggestions!

Just to let you know, the potato chips are organic and purple! OMG.
-
Purple organic potato chips sound great. I may have to make some with the purple potatoes I harvested last week. 😉
But to the point, I agree with you @Marjory Wildcraft on the having too much to do to spend a bunch of time on hair. It sounds like my hair is the exact opposite of yours though. I'm assuming you are thinking short? I think since you are going to be going purple it would be fun if it were a bit spiky. Kinda like this one.

I prefer my thick, straight, gray hair supper short. Easy to take care of - wash and go! It does need regular trimming to keep from getting shaggy.
-
I just had my hair cut from long to shoulder length. It is long enough to do either a high or low ponytail when I am working or in windy conditions. My hair is now short enough to wear down and curl if wanted. Strangely, for fine, some parts wavy hair, my hair has been behaving itself and looking okay with an air dry. My hair started behaving better after it started growing gray.
I did spend about 20 years with a super short haircut that could air dry and would still look good after the wind got a hold of it. The bad part about the super short cuts is that they need a trim every six weeks.

@Marjory Wildcraft You have more nerve than I do. I turned 60 a few years ago, have always had long hair. Only once have I ever changed the color. (My ex decided I should go blonde. Don't ask)
Still have long hair, though it is getting much grayer seems like every day.

Personally, I prefer long hair. I had mine cut short for a while many years ago, and it was so tickly on the back of my neck! I found that it was also more work to keep looking nice.
With long hair, it is easy to put it up & off of my neck. I actually found it was cooler feeling than when I had short hair.
I also don't need to cut it...every six weeks for short hair is ideal from what I've read.
I wonder if long enough to put it up is good enough. Although, if you cut it very short & don't like it, you can grow it out again to a length that suits you best.

@Marjory Wildcraft way to go girl, short hair rocks. I had a haircut yesterday & got it a bit shorter as we’re coming into summer down under. I went with a pixie style & very happy. The pic below shows the style, that is not me.
Step out of the shower, towel it off, run your fingers over it & away you go. You better show us the purple hair next January!!
-
OMG!!! for when I go purple... YES! lol
-
@LaurieLovesLearning you also live in a cold climate? Longer hair would make a ton more sense there.
-
oK, I got it cut yesterday and I kind of hate it...
Kimber (my daughter) tells me it will take a week to get over any new major hairstyle change. She told me I looked "Hot". Uh, what???
But dang, I think it now makes me look more gray.
Haivng short hair is a good way to beat the heat I think. I was always pulling it back in a ponytail before anyway.
I think Im OK with getting a trim every siix weeks. Seems like a trade off for all the other care you normally do for long hair.
Sigh, I can always grow it back.
Yup, so kind of conflicted here...
GIve me a sec and I'll find a way to upload the photo from my hone.
PS: the pruple for 60 is definitely ON no matter what. And @Michelle D might as well go sipikey with the purple. If you are going to be outrqgeous, might as well go full bore.

@Marjory Wildcraft I like hair long enough to add rollers for some curl but sometimes I just let it go without curls and it looks OK!
Try different things. Cut it a little like you did and maybe next time cut it shorter. Go with the flow!

@Marjory Wildcraft Long hair doesn't make a cold climate better. In fact, you put on your winter coat &/or hood/touque, and you will have knots like you don't remember, and it can get hot & itchy...and those few or one long hair(s) can get in your face and be super annoying.
Oh yeah...I noticed my hair appearing gray when I got mine cut too. I prefer the "Canadian sun" bleached shade instead. I suspect if I cut mine now, it would make me look a whole lot older!
I also hated my cuts...each time. Nothing seemed consistent.
You know, you can use a sculpting paste/cream/something or other to play with your hair. That helped me. You don't need to take long with it either. Put it in while wet/damp.
It seems those products are always changing category, like in the 80s it was a sculpting mousse. Remember that?

@Marjory Wildcraft please post a photo for us to admire your new hairstyle

i have had short and long hair - right now it is long and right now it is the longest it has been since I was a teenager (down to the middle of my back). It is also really thick so now I have to divide it into thirds in order to wash and rinse it - it take about 20 minutes just for my hair. Granted the other problem is I have a low flow shower head which doesn't help. One of these days I will cut it shorter if not completely short.
-
@Marjory Wildcraft LOL It sounds like I could have written your first post! I have been toying with getting a haircut----mine is to the middle of my back. However it is so nice to be able to put it in a ponytail and let the wind try to mess that up! Ive already passed the 60 mark and oops the 70th birthday---I love purple, so I might have to have purple hair or streaks for my 80th!
Enjoyed reading all of the suggestions and comments---I'll be checking back here to see if something sends me running to the beauty shop!

I've gone from long to a fairly short bob off and on over the years. Definitely time for me to have a haircut again. Those super short spikey hair does are super cute, but I just don't think they are my style.
-
I say go Short! Like the pic on @JodieDownUnder posted above. Yes, really! I just gel and go, or can do some curl when I am working. You can do a soft spike so it isn't so harsh as it will be strange at first after longer hair. And, don't forget to donate your locks if you go short! I am 61 and usually curl it a bit but spike it too for fun or when the humidity tells my hair to frizz. Whatever you choose, give yourself time to play with it. If you want to grow out the hiding gray, grow out as much as you can stand and then cut it short. I got by with just a tinge of brown which was really barely seen on the tips. Two weeks later got those trimmed off. I like to curl mine so when I brush it back I get some lines of structure. Have fun!

OK, here is the photo. This was not entirely what I was looking for, but it was a gay male hairdresser who took over and decided he absolutely knew what was best and I just let him go. Yes, it was a totally stereotypical gay male hairdresser kind of situation - in Miami. After it was done he assured me I looked a decade younger.
I am wondering if those kind of compliments are why they charge so dang much?
@JodieDownUnder yes, I was looking for something more like what you posted. Short bangs on the front. These longer ones don't stay pulled to the side.
But I have to say - I am much cooler with this cut! I might post about it under teh 'beating the heat' discussion.
-
@Marjory Wildcraft I like it! You do look great!
-
I think it is very nice, plus it looks easy to care for!~
-
@Marjory Wildcraft I really like this style. Short is in and it will be a big help on days when you are very busy!
-
it looks great!
-
I love it! And cooler is better in the summer!
-
@Marjory Wildcraft your haircut is beautiful
