Free clothes

Several weeks ago the local church had a free clothing weekend. They collected clothing for about 4 months. It was perfectly planned to take place right before school starting so parents were thrilled to save money. And the quality was amazing!~

Well, they are having the sale one more time to get rid of excess. There was a lot less today , especially in children's clothing but it was still a nice sale.

I found a reversable jacket, rain resistant on the inside, and a dress with the original tags. (More than I would pay for a dress). I am now set with a new wardrobe for a year. Other items were selected for the buttons, beads and material to create something new. Some items for me and others to sell. I have my sewing machine back out!~

My niece met me there with her two children and they had a blast picking out clothing. My niece picked out a top that I had eyed but not looked at well. Inside was a stunning necklace!~

In todays rather rocky economy I like so save where I can and see others do the same. Plus it was a great community event.

@Monek Marie would you share a photo of some of the buttons, beads, and materials you chose?

in September there is a Rummage sale put together by a local church that I volunteer at helping out by placing items donated at specific tables. And there is usually a lot of clothing items.

    I'll fire the camera up @SuperC .

Often at a rummage sale I will to see what I can create with. Buttons and zippers add up in costs so I look for those. Beads sown on clothing. Interesting cloth or cloths that can be altered. I bought some gingham tops to make a quilt out of. My mom loved gingham.

I get corduroy for quilts and rags. Mom used to make us bean bags from corduroy scraps.

And I just saw the cutest little angel dolls make from cloth scraps.

Old jeans make a great garden tool belt with pockets already in place

Great ideas. I always have loved looking through small bins and shoeboxes of varieties of buttons. The beads i use are for making friendship pins for tennis shoes. I’ve always liked wearing corduroy, so perhaps I’ll find something interesting. I’m now looking for nice blouses @Monek Marie

@SuperC Friendship pins for shoes sounds interesting. I look for shirts that they cover with bead designs and get about a pint jar full off some shirts. Would love to see one of your frinedship pins.
