Good discussion on elecampane, Judson.
I don't know about herbalists in other parts but here, all the herbalists I know have elecampane in their gardens. Its widely used. Its in the curriculum at both Dominion and Wild Rose herbal colleges. A herbalist friend of mine uses it (along with a couple of other ingredients) in her flu & immune tonic that she sells.
So everyone else, if your not using this as part of your herbal medicine chest, get on it. Get a bottle of tincture now to use for the upcoming respiratory illness season, and next spring, get a plant growing in your garden.

I agree - it is an essential herb!

I forget about elecapampane! John Gallagher of learning herbs and herb mentor taught me about that.

U find it is one of those herbs that are so common, we forget about it. Like thyme... how often do we think of the kitchen herb, thyme as an expectorant?
