Free mulch and more
I love free.
Yesterday I saw a marketplace ad for 36 bales of old mulch straw. The location turned out to be close and I need it for projects. So I set up a time to get it. Then he offered to deliver! Lets make my life easier.
The mulch arrived tonight, quite later but we unloaded it. Some will still be able to be used for bedding for chickens. As we were talking the man asked If I knew much about lavender and if would like some plants. (Well Yes!) They were overgrown at the house they just bought and he knew nothing about them.
As we talked we planned to swap plants and seeds. I will start him some asparagus plants and have some Italian garlic he can plant. I'll be going up this Thursday will shovel in hand to dig.
It was a good day!~ And best of all I have a new friend.
And tomorrow is another free clothing day at a local church. We have a large clothing business in town and it must be there way of writing off extra items.

@Monek Marie Way to go! Sounds like a great day, and topped with a new friend!

Great score! And bonus that some is still useable for chicken bedding. Wonderful that you can swap plants/seeds with him and made a new friend as well.
Straw is scarce here right now. We have talked to many who have been trying hard to get some for over a month now. We called a place we get it from sometimes and they had an order due in about a week, but clarified "If" it showed up. Said last two orders they did not receive any.

They thought both hay and straw might be scarce here this year with near drought conditions but I guess we has rain at the right times. Hopefully it will help out with the cost of grains rising.
Good luck getting your straw.

@Monek Marie We had drought in June, Then it started raining on July 4th and have only had a few days without rain since and many of those were cloudy. Many crops and gardens here did quite poorly this year. Some farmers lost whole fields of grain or peas that are used to blend feed for livestock.

@vickeym We had a year like that once and it was horrible. To go from one extreme to another. The crops rotted and seeds were scarce the next year. Best of luck
