cool old net book

Oooh.. look what I just got on Ebay! 1942 classic. I know this won't excite many ladies, but hopefully many men still enjoy fishing, frog gigging and turtle trapping as much as I do. And let's face it "The romance of net making" is about as much romance as I can get right now!

I'm not sure about the "romance" of net making but it certainly is a valuable skill. And not just for men.
I was in a garden centre yesterday that also sells designer house wares. Much to my surprise, there was a big selection of macrame hanging things (wall hangings, plant pot holders, etc.). Haven't seen that much macrame in one place for a long time! :) Macrame isn't far off from net making.
Just had a look and found a reprint of this book on Amazon.ca and an old copy on Amazon.com for anyone else that would like this book.

Good for keeping most critters out of the garden, too!

Will have to see about getting that one or at least one like it. Would like to know how to make nets. They are useful for so many things. And could be even more useful if things get much worse.
-
I have several net books. This one is considered a classic - I'll be interested to see how it is put together.
-
I may have to track this one down also. I have the basic ideas of how to make a net. I made one with my father when I was young. I would love to make it a skill that I can utilize.
-
Love this book. What a find and everyone should have these skills. With a deep creek behind the house I should take more advantage of what it has to offer.
-
Definately!
-
Agreed that net making would be a great skill to have.
-
Yes, a great skill.

You can find some very interesting older books either in local book sales or on the Internet.
I have Sunset's Vegetable Garden Book from Sunset magazine, published 1943 and in excellent condition. It has a lot of good information and is clearly written to a wartime "Victory garden" audience.

Great for the net maker, and for successful catches.

The net making sounds fun! I know a new cookbook that just released that can give good recipes for what you catch! 🤣😂🤣
-
@torey you are so right about macrame being close to net making. It's certainly experiencing a resurgence right now, for sure!
-
I have watched a few shows about Alaska and wondered how they made nets. Would be cool to see how it is done
