ISO Green Walnuts in Husks
Found a video that got me interested in a tincture they were making. It uses the green husk on the walnut. The greener the better. But of course, walnuts don't grow in Alaska. Would anyone have an idea where I could get my hands on green walnuts in the husks?

We have Black Walnuts here. What is the recipe for 5e tincture? Just green husks in alcohol? What does the tincture do? @vickeym
-
@SuperC Yes it is a tincture. I will add a link to the Youtube video from The Prepared Homestead.

Not listing what he is making for the "troll" kind looking for certain words.

@vickeym We found a few things having to do with walnuts, seeing as we have a ton of black walnut trees on this property.
I think I remember something about a tincture. I know we have two things we made using the young green walnuts and soaking them in wine and other ingredients but I'll need to see if I can find the info about those for you. There may be other things listed that you can make that we haven't tried yet in that info.😊
-
The link I shared was a medicinal that fits the threats being thrown around by certain high level "locations."
Thank you for the information, I would love to see the recipes you have. First I need to find a source for the green Walnuts before I can try making anything with them though.

I think we can safely discuss this subject here without politizing it (although I will monitor comments to make sure we're not getting off topic).
After all, some of us might live close to a nuclear power plant that may be on a fault line subject to possible failure after an earthquake, such as we saw in Japan at the Fukushima nuclear facility after the 2011 earthquake. Here on the west coast there was quite a bit of concern about the radiation after that event. Iodine pills were in short supply.
You don't have to live in an earthquake zone to be in danger. Think Three Mile Island and Chernobyl.
So having a list of plants that are possible mediators of radiation poisoning would be useful.
This link is for a review of studies done on several plant species. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2127223/#:~:text=The%20results%20obtained%20from%20in,Piper%20longum%2C%20Tinospora%20cordifoila%2C%20Mentha
And another study. https://www.future-science.com/doi/10.4155/fsoa-2017-0061
Sea veggies are another item that can be added to the diet for protection, in particular ones containing fucoidan.
This is an article from Vitality magazine. https://vitalitymagazine.com/article/radiation/ It discusses sea veg among other things.

@vickeym I'm afraid the info I had printed up didn't have a web address. But I know I've seen some recipes or mention of walnut as medicine in some of the books I have perhaps. I'll try to see if I can locate them in the midst of our renovation. I'll be back in touch when I've found something.🤔
In the meantime, I have tons of black walnuts growing here so if you're unsuccessful in locating any I could send you some. They seem to use the husks when they're bright green which is in the summer here. They're all ripe now and falling off the trees.
If you're interested just let me know by pm.😊

Thanks @torey . I'll look into the articles. I just didn't mention radiation in the first one in case it was one of the words your not allowed to use. Didn't want to get the group in trouble with FB.
-
I have lots of black walnuts here. I have been looking for the best way to use them. Thank you all for all this info. It will be very helpful as I've been researching the subject matter being discussed above.
I follow Travis so I'm not sure how I missed that video.

@vickeym I don't think FB cares about this forum since the site is not hosted by FB. So, no worries that way.
Our concern here would be as @torey suggested, being things along political lines or fear mongering, in which case, calm and grounded is always the better & wisest way forward.
Fear & excitability leads to panic and poor assessment of a situation (or potential situation) & poor decision making. There will never be a shortage of folks who want to get everyone on their sensational bandwagon, making decisions due to emotional excitement & manipulation. Approaching things in a grounded way and with a calm mind generally ensures a more productive directing of energy, as I'm sure you would agree.
As Torey said, for some, this topic of radiation & helps could be a very relevant topic if they live close to a plant. Considering that these plants can be found worldwide, and disasters can happen anywhere, this information could prove to be very useful.

@LaurieLovesLearning Sorry, I guess I got interrupted or lost my train of thought. I didn't mean to say FB specifically. I meant to say with the FB type of monitoring and censorship happening in so many places by our controlling powers. (Not those on this group, but those higher up)

@vickeym I'm not sure green walnuts will ship well. I picked one up on a walk the other day because it had some cool squirrel bite marks on it. I dropped it in the pocket of my cotton bag, and by the time I took it out that evening, it was already turning black, and the husk was drying up.
I don't have any trees myself, or I'd try to send one or two.
-
@vickeym I just got a bit confused. I understand about being careful. Thanks for being thoughtful! You are one many members who don’t want to draw unwanted attention to our forum. 👍
-
@Linda Bittle Hmmm, I wonder if the inside would stay green. Might have to pay someone to scrape the green off for me and maybe put in a tincture start. Will have to do some research.
@LaurieLovesLearning I understand the confusion. Especially since I left out a few words in my comment.
-
This time of year the husks have thinned and the nuts inside are ripening. The husks will eventually turn black and come off.
The green husks you want to have and use are of newly formed nuts and the green husk is malleable. And as my husband and I found out this year there is a small window of time to harvest them off the tree when they are in that state.
-
@JennyT Upstate South Carolina Thank you for the information. It is just what I needed to know.
@Owl Looks like we need to wait. This will give me time to check into shipping regulations too.
-
I’m unable to open the links. So, my question is: What does the Black Walnut tincture do?
-
@SuperC In this case it is being used as an antidote or protective agent against radiation.
-
This is a really interesting thread -- I've never heard of the green husks on walnuts being used this way. There's always so much to learn. Thank you for asking this question, @vickeym!
-
I found a website that describes the whole process pretty well and explains it is useful for other things as well.
-
@vickeym I had a chance to read the article. It's intriguing that only the outer hulls are used for all those purposes.😊
-
@JennyT Upstate South Carolina I thought so to. Makes it even better that you are using what would be a waste product to make medicines that are so valuable.
-
I made a tincture out of green black walnut hulls and use it for mouthwash as well. Then I found an article in my Rachel Weaver book about using black black walnut hulls in teeth treatment is best.
So, I now have both options for whatever crops up in life. Good.
-
Don't forget in the event of radiation exposure that animals (mammals specifically) will also have the same issue of the thyroid getting irradiated so this may also be good to have for your live stock.
I'll be harvesting black walnut seeds to grow in the next week, but the husks will most likely already be brown 😔
-
@Cornelius Thank you for the reminder. We all need to remember there are things we need to learn and be prepared to handle, not just for ourselves but for our livestock's health as well.
Now to figure out dosing for a chicken... LOL
-
This is amazing! I mean, we have loads of Black Walnut trees near us so next year, I will adamantly collect the green hulls and make a tincture or two. One for mouthwash and the other for the radiation aspect. Thank you all for your input on this wonderful nut. Btw, Happy Halloween to all

This reminded me of our discussions here....
So… I went on vacation for a week and a squirrel decided to find out how many black walnuts they could fit in my engine compartment.
The answer is 558 walnuts. 558 black walnuts fit in my engine.
(The squirrel was gently shooed out of the car and got to keep most of their walnuts! I still felt terrible for undoing all their hard work.)
-
@vickeym I wouldn't feel the least little bit bad for the squirrels. After "squirreling" things away, squirrels have a bad habit of forgetting where their stashes are and then they go to waste. They also have a bit of an issue with hoarding. :)
-
@torey I agree. Have had some interesting run ins with squirrels over the years. Even a 2:00 am wake up in a hurry due to a flying squirrel.
Just saw this one shared from a post on FB and it reminded me of our discussion here.
-
Oh my! Can't imagine why a squirrel would think that would be a good place to store their walnuts.
