Winter indoor craft projects

It's time to think about moving our activities inside. We are at peak color season here and it's beautiful outside, but that won't last long.

I bought a couple large rolls of yarn a few days ago to crochet a new blanket. We only have two of these blankets, and one of them is really too small for an adult. So I have started making another large one.

It's going to take quite a bit of time to make, but it's a relaxing activity to do in the evening by the far, often listening to music.

The other project is to make new slipcovers for our couch. The fabric of one of the cushions is so worn that you can see the foam through it. I bought some heavy craft felt in a color that matches the couch fabric pretty well. Now I just have to figure out the best way to create the slipcover. Elastic, drawstring, sewed solidly all around?

Quieter times ahead.

@VermontCathy I would never have thought of using felt for slip covers. Our most recent "craft" project would be making homemade sausages. Last one we tried were breakfast sausage and Italian sausage and yesterday we made our first try at kielbasa. Also our first try at smoking the sausages as well.

Neither of these will be our last. LOL

Last winter I started to crochet a blanket. I plan to finish it this winter. I never find time to crochet in the spring or summer.

I also have on my list for this winter to get more practice making sausage. I have had lots of practice with making jerky and hunter sticks. I want to get better at bratwurst and kielbasa for sure. We do go through a lot of breakfast sausage although I don't make that myself. The butcher mixes it up for us when we get our hog each year so I have been lazy about that one.

@VermontCathy It is beautiful here with the leaves starting to change colors! Clever idea about using the felt--that would not have been on my radar! Make sure you take a before and after picture!

@VermontCathy between now & Xmas, I’m keen to make some more reindeers as pre Xmas gifts for friends/family. It’s predicted to be wet this week coming, so I might set up in my shed & get to work.

I am finishing up a few afghans mom did not finish up to give as gifts. Thye will be half made my mom and half by me.

If I can warm the room enough I plan to paint at least one room, maybe another.

I have not crocheted in years so at night I plan to learn a few new patterns.

And I plan to try to make some plant based cheese. Lol, is that considered a craft?

The warm weather here has thrown off my fall activities. On the one hand, it has made it easier to rake up the 160+ bags on leaves. On the other hand, I haven't been down in the den in the evenings crocheting.

Tonight will be our first woodstove fire of the season. And Daylight Saving has ended, so the sun is setting around 4:30, so our evenings have largely moved inside.

I haven't touched the afghan in a week, but now I will be getting back to it.

Our Autumn colors were beautiful and many larger leaves. A few days ago there was a high wind so that made raking (frontyard only) easier. The wind even blew out the valley on our roof so that’s leafless. And today was rainy. Thank goodness we took advantage of that dry day. Thank you for sharing about the colors in your area and how the seasons are changing! where you live. @VermontCathy

Our indoor activities include baking Christmas cookies. Organizing the rooms in the house, one room a month. Turkey dinner planning for the upcoming holidays. And possibly sewing a couple of projects (quilt, pillows, blouse, pants).

@VermontCathy our weather has been unseasonably warmer than usual also. It has thrown off a lot of things here. My indoor projects for the next week or 2 will mostly be in the kitchen. I need to make bone broth, render lard, make freezer meal and I have a ton of baking to do for a bake sale that is coming up.

@SuperC I signed up to bake several varieties of cookies and pecan pies but I noticed that there are still several other items on the list that no one volunteered for yet so I will probably also do sweet breads, pumpkin pies and pumpkin rolls.
