Never forget to cultivate the other side of the man

I spent 10 yrs paying off a half million in debt. All I did was work, garden, fish and hunt. I find it very fulling now to whittle, sketch, study Latin, tap dance, do Indian Clubs read for pleasure, study theology, history etc.

Congratulations on having reached the point you could stop or at least slow down the rat race. Hope to reach that ourselves at some point. Though we live pretty simply already there is always work to be done on a farm. Even a small one. And always some type of bill that needs paid or something to buy, feed, straw, seeds for the garden for things we cannot save our own. etc.
-
I haven't slowed down. But I have found time to do things int he evening while listening to the news and such.
-
@judsoncarroll4 you must be very good at time management & or very strong work ethic. To write the books you have over the last couple years, forage, hunt, cook, grow food, whittle, do music, be very present on TGN forums etc. Hats off to you sir.

@judsoncarroll4 it must have been a tough time. Fortunately you can enjoy doing things you like doing and your scope of interests is so wide. Some people do not know what to do with their time once they stop working for some purpose or retire. It might be even a bigger problem than having too much to do.
-
Oh, I am still working hard - just have "a little breathing room" as the old folks would say.
-
It speaks greatly of your character to pay it all back. There are many who would have declared bankruptcy and walked away from that much debt.
-
Thanks. It probably would have been wise to declare bankruptcy. But, it came down to the point where all I had left was my good name and integrity. So, I just couldn't do that. I made every sacrifice and took every lousy job I could to get it done.
-
@judsoncarroll4 that is a great accomplishment! I'm glad to hear that you are through it and are now enjoying some free time to develop skills you enjoy.
-
@judsoncarroll4 Sounds a bit like my lifestyle---I just tell the grandkids, I'm still deciding what I want to be when I grow up!
-
@water2world My grandkids are still a bit too young to understand that, but I'm still deciding what to be when I grow up. I'm retired from work, but still work on learning as much as I can.
-
Glad to hear that debt is paid and you can regain focus on all of the little interests you seek and enjoy. @judsoncarroll4

The time has come to an end.
