I love herbal honey recipes. They're so simple but powerful. Thanks for sharing @LaurieLovesLearning.

Have you tried the cough syrup recipe using honey and red onion? I'm going to try to make that one this week, hopefully.

I have used this for years. It's the best.

Lemon and onion (cook until the onions are soft) and then add honey sooths a throat.

No, I haven't. But, I've got both available. Was that recipe posted here?

@Monek Marie What are the ratios? Is it a full lemon or can you use the freshly squeezed juice? I don't have lemons, but saved juice in the freezer.

No @LaurieLovesLearning, unfortunately not but I'll see if I can find it for you and post it here.

I don't bother with the cooking part of the onion honey. Just raw red onion slices covered with honey. The onions soften up very quickly even without heat and release the juice into the honey. I usually add a few pieces of garlic and ginger into the spaces between the onion slices. You can put in a few herbs if you want. Sometimes I will add sage leaves if I have them. A small piece of cayenne pepper is nice, too, and a few black peppercorns.

Onion honey is nice to add to homemade salad dressings as the sweetener. I haven't tried this but it probably makes a great sweetener to add to a homemade BBQ sauce. Great poured over roast veggies. Food medicine at its finest! :)

Thanks for all these recipes! I'm going to try them all. @torey I make homemade oil and vinegar dressing - onion honey sounds like a really good addition!

@LaurieLovesLearning The one I wanted to post about red onion and honey I couldn't find.

But all the lady did was dice up a red onion and put it in a canning jar. She then used a large spoon or butter knife, I forget which, and pressed the onions to the side of the jar a little. Then she added raw honey enough to just cover the onions. She stirred it up well and that was it. She said in a few weeks it would be ready, the liquid on the top would be the syrup.

This is the one I'm planning on making this week.😊

I was teaching a class last night and onion honey was one of the preparations. This is the jar I did up yesterday morning to take as an example. Red onions, the white bits are pieces of garlic, the yellow slices are ginger and the floater on the bottom is a chilli pepper. Even though you can't see them, there are also about 6 juniper berries in the jar, too.

That's the beauty and versatility of honey syrups. You can put almost anything in them.

As soon as I get some organic lemons, I will be making the lemon and ginger honey. I think it would be an awesome syrup to add to bubbly water. Lemon-gingerale!

@torey I think you almost made a fire cider honey! Add it to apple cider vinegar & have it sit a bit, and that's exactly what you'd have, and super easy too!

I've made the lemon-ginger honey syrup. Its been sitting for 3 days and I opened it this morning. Great lemon flavour. I think I could have added more ginger cause I'm not getting much of that. Next time.

I added it to some bubbly water and, as I thought, it makes an excellent beverage. More like 7-Up and less like gingerale. Great way to sip on Vitamin C when you are sick!

I am going to make this today without cooking it. Heat will be minimal or non-existent. Will add some garlic as my daughter has encouraged me to take raw garlic. Tried raw garlic one night, and it made me sick to my stomach. I'll start with a small amount of garlic. Hope something works to assuage my chronic cough.
