It Is Thanksgiving in the US And Here Is What I Am Thankful For

Today is Thanksgiving in the US and today I am very grateful that my dad is getting the care he needs and while he is still in the hospital, we will still be able to be together to give THANKS for all we have and for each other.

What are you grateful for this rather tough year?

This has been a tough year in so many ways but I still have so much for which to be grateful. We are not doing a normal Thanksgiving this year as we are preparing to head out of town for a funeral in the morning. The blessing that is most in the front of my mind today is the fact that I will be able to see and spend time with extend family that I only see on rare occasions over the weekend while we are gone.

I am thankful that I made the decision to return to Missouri. There are challenges with my mom, but my sister needed me to come home.

Our Thanksgiving is long past, but it's always good to practice thankfulness.

I am thankful for many things (new babies, peacefulness, nature, the clean air of winter, reconciliation within families, people who willingly advocate for others when the going gets tough, a home, true friends, effort that reaps rewards, a welcoming community in spite of differences, etc.), but mobility is certainly something that once lost (even if temporary) changes many things and can make you fully dependent on others in spite of will power. This can make a person feel defeated, depressed, helpless, frustrated, impatient & more. Sometimes its painful, which makes for more issues.

Once in a while I go through something that limits my abilities and reminds me I am not without limits. A sore back or hip that limits lifting or ascending or descending stairs. Sometimes my knees revisit my meniscus tear days, or my carpal tunnel prevents certain activities. I know I'm far from the only one here that understands this.

Mobility is huge and often we aren't thankful for it until it's lost & we heal once again. Mobility is life-giving and gives hope to oneself and can make someone available to others. So, today I am thankful for movement so I can accomplish things that I encounter in my day.

@Lisa K I am grateful for living where I do, being healthy, being loved & being involved in my community. I started out this year with a goal in mind to meet more like minds. That has definitely happened, I’m involved with a great group of people keen to start a community garden & other community projects. Originally a bunch of strangers with a common interest, that now has evolved into a group of friends with different strengths & ideas. I have also started Tai Chi this year, something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, I love it & I’m grateful for being involved. So good for my mindfulness & posture.

@Lisa K we do not have any thanksgiving day, but , basically every day is a thanksgiving day. This year I am much better to thank whatever, whoever for everything: that we are healthy, that we have everything we need, that our children and grandchildren are healthy, that the relationship within the family, neighbourhood, friends and guests is good, grateful for the crops, grateful for wonderful weather and then for the rain… It is quite often that I wake up with the thought of gratitude that everything goes so well.

I agree with everyone that gratitude is every day which is why I journal one thing that I am grateful for every night, but this year with my dad's health challenges (in fact we spent Thanksgiving in the hospital) I am especially grateful to have had another Thanksgiving with him.

I am thankful to live where I can have a garden and that my family supports me! I mentioned to one of my boys that one of his siblings won an award (a sibling that three of them pay no attention to) and said he was grateful that he won a trip to Mexico to receive his award! Surprised me with his comment! I am thankful that my friends and family messaged and called me on Thanksgiving! I am especially grateful for the Grow Network and that great advice I receive on different problems that arise! Thanks to all of you!
