Music copyright question

Do any of my friends know about music copyrights and liscensing? I would like to write a unique book on chord melody, using a couple of popular songs from the 1920s as examples of how to do it. Anyone know how I can do that legally?

@judsoncarroll4 all music is copyrighted. I have some sheet music from back in the 1920's. You have to contact the company that copyrighted that music.

@judsoncarroll4 It's a bit different here of course, but US copyright is honored up here.
You will need to do a copyright search to see who holds the current copyright license. It can be held a very long time by a person/family or the rights bought by someone new. Just because it states on name/company doesn't mean they still hold it.

I don't know how helpful these are, but here is a music copyright checker, and some articles.
