This is a good discussion on how some things work for some people but not others.

You mentioned that you have fairly good results with Kava. On the other side of it, I took kava trying to get some of the muscle relaxant effects for extremely tight muscle pain. I was awake most of the night with no relief from the tight muscles. I had mentioned it to a friend who was having a similar issue but I suggested she try it during the day instead of before bed as I had done. Well, she had an experience similar to a mind altering drug; giggling a lot, loving everyone, babbling on every subject, etc. While it wasn't unpleasant, she doesn't want to do that again.

I haven't had any experience with Jamaican dogwood. Not something that is as available here, at least with the companies that I deal with.

We certainly do need alternatives to the opiates that many docs are so fond of prescribing.

    So glad you found Buddy!

I forgot to mention about Gelsemium. Its available as a homeopathic remedy, often given for flu symptoms. Much safer way to use it than herbally.

Thanks! I like Kava Kava. For me, it is a simple muscle relaxer. I have not tried making the Polynesian traditional beer with it though. A former neighbor's husband was Hawaiian, and he loved it. His family made their own to have at holidays and such. She tried it and it had cannabis/slightly hallucinogenic effects and she is afraid of drinking again. For him and his family, it is just relaxing but does seem to make them more talkative. All the men in the family are well over 6 and a half feet tall and 300 lbs.... they can be quite intimidating when not sipping kava beer!
