When I first started to read about the hoptree in your book, I thought it likely wouldn't grow in my zone but I've looked it up and it will grow to zone 3. Next would be to try and locate a young specimen. Certainly sounds like a good plant to have in your yard.

Do you know if they grow easily from seed?

Pears will grow in my area but they seem to need specific micro climates. The hardy pollinator pears grow quite well but the eating pears are a bit more finicky.

Yes, they seem to grow well from seeds. I usually find little saplings around parent trees. I always thought the seeds were fascinating, but I never knew what they were until I wrote this book! Pears grow great hear. My grandfather had a huge Bartlet pear tree that bore hundreds of pounds of fruit each year. We ate them fresh, my grandmother made pear preserves, he made pear wine. DELISCIOUS! THe swallowtail butterflies and yellow jackets loved the groundfalls.
