Aphids How to Get Rid of Them

Since a lot of us are getting excited about starting seeds and making spring garden plans, I thought I'd share this video I just watched about how to control aphids. I'm always looking for ways to get rid of them.
Another good one. He talks about a lot of the same things, but I like the trap crop idea. I'm going to try it. I'm always spraying them with water, but it would be great to attract them to another plant.

Lovage makes a great trap crop for black aphids.

@Torey I've been trying to start some under a grow lamp but it just won't sprout. The other ones are doing well - hyssop and epazote. Maybe lovage takes longer or the seeds are not good.

I like to "wash" my plants with a biodegradable soap in early spring that way I can control them until the beneficial bugs show up - usually in May.

@Lisa K That's a good idea too.

Nasturtiums (tropaeolum) is also a very good aphid trap.
my way is to strengthen the plants by giving them a good company of herbs, by fertilising with horsetail, stinging nettle and comfrey and by washing the plants with rain water when I am watering them. I grow the plants the harsh way: strong will survive, weak will die whatever I do.
