A strange & intriguing ad... any ideas about purpose?

I just saw this local ad: "Looking for common garden weeds" which was followed by this: "Need to collect a couple of kilos of chemical free pursulane (Portulaca), Amaranth, and Chenopodium (goosefoot)."
I think it would be a bit rude to ask them why they want these and so much of each.
Does anyone want to venture a guess why someone might want this much? Maybe a huge salad for something? That's all I can think of. I'm so curious.
What's your guess?

That would make me curious also. All three of those offer great nutritional value. Maybe they are trying to feed a large family.
I probably had that much goosefoot and pursulane on Monday when I cleaned out my mom's front garden. Too bad I wasn't able to help them out.

@LaurieLovesLearning sounds interesting doesn't it!
-
Maybe drying the greens for adding to smoothies? I've never tried to dry purslane.
-
Most likely for re-sale
-
@judsoncarroll4 I wondered about resale, but I haven't seen anything of this sort sold anywhere locally.
But, if that was the case, in what form would you think it might be sold? Greens would have to be very fresh, and I doubt that a gardener weeding would take many precautions to keep it that way.

It is a mystery!
-
Maybe they are planning on drying it then sell them as supplements or a powders to add to smoothies. Is there a phone number which might give you a clue to if they are a business?
-
@Lisa K Good idea. I'll check.
-
Farmer's Market? Animal feed? I'm curious, too.
-
@Lisa K Cell phone #, not connected to a business that I can tell.
-
Can you make fertilizer from these plants?
-
@Linda Bittle I would imagine so.
-
Darn, I was hoping that would work! it is a mystery!
-
If it were late enough in the season, I would think they were hoping for enough seed to plant in their own yard. Or if the plants still had root systems maybe trying to replant. But coming from someone else's yard waste, probably not much chance they would survive.
Maybe they want them dried out to make medicine with or powder for future use.
-
@vickeym Perhaps. I gave in and asked. No reply forthcoming just yet.
-
@LaurieLovesLearning I have a feeling we will all be waiting to see if you get an answer. You and that ad have peaked my curiosity.
-
I received an answer! 😄
"They are very nutritious and cook just like spinach and can be used wherever spinach fits in dishes."
I asked this person if they would be blanching them & freezing it like spinach for later use.
Mystery solved!
-
@LaurieLovesLearning doesn't it feel so much better to know! It sounds like that person has a great plan.
-
It totally does. She is a smart woman.
-
I love all of you! Did you know you can make a Greek dish like spanakopita with any greens. It’s called something else, not spanakopita , or spinach pie, but something like herb pie.

The Purslane to be used either as a Poltice or a Tincture for scrapes or bruises??
