Medicinal Shrubs and Woody Vines: Calycanthus, Sweet Shrub and Ceanothus, New Jersey Tea

None of these grow in my area.
I am familiar with Ceanothus from herbal medicine but not the other species.
Can the "allspices" be used in place of allspice?

It was used by early settlers in cooking. I would hesitate to use much though.
