The perfect tomato sandwich

Given that I just picked my first 2 cherry tomatoes this weekend, I figure it's time to start thinking about all the ways to enjoy the harvest.

I can't wait to get more tomatoes! So far I have only eaten one garden tomato this year. Two other have been picked, but the slugs had already damaged them beyond eating. I did try to save seeds from one of them, since it produced early tomatoes.
A week or so from now I think the tomatoes will start to really roll in. August is tomato month here.

@Linda Bittle The tomato sandwich sounds good!!
I have a nice size Brandywine tomato about ready to pick and I've been thinking of making BLT's with homemade mayo.

@kbmbillups1 Brandywines are my very favorite tomatoes! It's gonna take a lot of cherry tomatoes to make up the difference.
-
@Linda Bittle True but I've done it before. I've sliced cherry tomatoes in thirds longways and put them on burgers. They do slide off easily, but you've got to go with what you have!

Cherry tomatoes are great on sandwiches. I cut my Sungold tomatoes in half and put the flat side down on the sandwich bread. You need quite a few Sungolds to cover the bread, but that variety products a lot of tomato fruits per plant.

My cherry tomatoes always grow better than my big tomatoes. I agree with going with what you have!

Cherry tomato varieties tend to be early and prolific, much more so than larger beefsteaks like Brandywine.
I love Sungold, but haven't found an heirlook or open-pollinated variety with that same sweet flavor. The sweetest heirloom I have tasted is probably Isis Candy.
The tomato season here is finally starting to kick in now. I've been nibbling one here, one there, and saving some seed from them for next year. But we still don't have enough coming in all at once to do any canning of tomato sauce.
