@Ruth Ann Reyes I saw the winter kit on sale but I already have my greens planted from summer and more than enough seeds remaining to plant. Can we still make comments even though we have planted our own seeds?
-
@dipat2005 Absolutely!!!
-
I already have seeds started for my winter garden. I've started different greens and soon broccoli. I'm going to plant peas as well. My problem is figuring out affordably how to keep the deer from eating them.
-
Watched all the modules, looking forward to receiving my seeds. I am in zone 4a and have always wanted to try fall/winter gardening. We have deer overload, the only thing I have found that works is fencing them out.

@kbeaumont Welcome to the TGN forum! Let us know approximately where you are from by leaving a note in our Introductions section.

As for winter gardening, I'm not sure what would actually here in my zone (3b). The winter cold gets too harsh & frost goes very deep.
What I've had pop up from the year before is volunteer potato seed, dill, parsnip(!), and cherry tomatoes.
My winter gardening will consist of indoor greens. I'm going to try miners lettuce, corn salad & of course, herbs. I'll plant seeds once everything is done outside. In the past, I've grown chickweed at the base of some plants (and it's still going!). My ginger is doing great for a change as well!

I got the package and have started to watch the course; I like the fact that Lynn gives info on ALL zones which is great!
-
9 out of the 10 seed varities has come up 😀 Only the chard needs to sprout. So excited! I am in northwest Montana.
-
How exciting! Take some photographs and share them with us if you get a chance!
-
Me too! Lynn is so thorough...

I also had a tremendous deer (and rabbit) problem when I lived in the Midwest. The best thing I did was use 6-foot T posts and inexpensive netting to keep them out. It was a bit of work to set up. However, it was well worth it!
-
I live in South Texas. I am hoping to get my seeds planted by the end of the month.
Right now, it's still 95 degrees during the daytime and 80 degrees at night.
Hopefully, by the end of the month, the daytime temps will drop into the upper 70's and lows in the upper 60's. 🤞
I will keep y'all posted!

Here they will easily clear 6', so I hear. My grandpa put up 8', and that seemed to work.
Maybe everyone needs to invest in elk fencing. 😆

@Ruth Ann Reyes in So. Calif the coast is in the mid to high 80's and even though it is cooling down, I probably will not be ready to plant the seeds until October since September can be so unpredictable weather wise.
-
My seeds arrived this morning! Unfortunately, it is still too hot to plant them in So. Calif.
-
I'm working away at building a mini hoop-house for my greens! I filmed it, so stay tuned and you can check out my design :) Yay winter greens!!

I actually planted my mixed greens the end of June and in July we had the high heat. Last week I did the first harvest and it was huge. I intermixed carrots and shallots. I didn't get my seeds from Grow Network but I did plant them after allowing the soil to be without greens for two years. My plan is to overwinter the greens. There is an overhanging soffit and it is on the North side of the building and has done well in that spot before.
@Marjory Wildcraft I really like the hoophouse.

I'd love to test some of these but unfortunately they do not ship this kit to Alaska. Will have to look up the varieties and see if I can get them elsewhere and try next year when I get a cold frame inside a greenhouse setup to try winter gardening. -20 to -25 for a week at a time or more is common and even -30F is at least very possible. Plus massive amounts of snow, have seen 3-5 feet in 24 to 48 hours. Can get pretty heavy and crush everything.
-
@vickeym if you have not already, you might check Baker's Creek (Rare Seeds), they ship all over the place.

Thank you. Yes, Baker's Creek is one of the places we order from. Need to get an order ready for next year anyway. LOL
-
Everyone who has planted, how are your seedlings coming along?
I just wanted to say, we have something exciting in the works for y'all!
-
@Ruth Ann Reyes as you know I didn't start my greens with your garden seeds. I planted on the north side of the apartment this year and there is a soffit fairly high (two stories above). I usually water every other day. i will go out tomorrow and check to see if it is getting any rain.
I picked about a week ago and filled a one gallon bag. I noticed on Saturday that the greens could be picked again. There are very few leaves that have mold on them (the mold comes from overhead watering and so it pays to water around or underneath).
On the east side with the 1 plant that the bird dropped the leaves are much larger and looked waterlogged with the rain. I am sure a picking is in order on that plant.
