Asparagus
Have a small patch of asparagus that has been there about 10 yrs now. For some reason all the shoots this year are coming up at the very edge of the spot where they are located. Seems none of them are growing in the spots where the older plants are located.
What is going on with them this year. Nice thick shoots are coming up on the edge though.🤣

Asparagus although it is a perinneal vegetable has a life span and it seems that your patch is coming to the end of its original stocks life. But it seems that they have produced side shoots and those are producing now.

Thanks for the comment , makes sense to me now.

I've just harvested my first two asparagus of this growing season. More are coming. I lost a few when I had to move them two years ago but looks like they recovered finally (last year wasn't a good year) and the new ones I planted at the same time as moving the others seem to be producing as well.
I didn't know they make side shoots. I guess you could dig them up in the fall and move them?

Marc, J did not try this yet but it should be possible.

This should help you with your asparagus issues (and yes, you should dig it up each fall after the fern dies and separate the root crown and replant them).

Thanks! Great resource!

Thanks. I did not know that I had to dig them up in the fall...and replant. That's a lot of work.
