Turn a 👕 T-Shirt into a Tank Top
Hey guys! If you're interested in this DIY project, please take a few minutes and listen to my audio file first ⬇⬇⬇
Option 1
Option 2
For the back - follow same lines as your front design OR cut a racer back using similar lines as below
My best tips
- Test your design on an old t-shirt by putting it on and drawing guidelines
- Cut close to the original armhole near the armpit to avoid extreme gaping and bra exposure 😀
- Use really sharp scissors

@Ruth Reyes-Loiacano do you 'treat' the cuts with any kind of stitch? If not, do you get much fraying of the cuts?
-
Nope! Because t-shirts are a knit, they raw edge will roll nicely. If you haven't already, have a listen to the audio at the top of this thread. I talk about it a little bit!

Oh @Ruth Reyes-Loiacano ! I loved this post. And that audio was hilarious LOL
I am so glad I practiced... as I totally biffed it up. The scissors were not sharp enough, and whew - that one arm hole definitely was too 'exposing' ha, ha. That's one I'll only wear around the house when I'm alone.
I am going to go to the craft store tomorrow, pick up some really good scissors, another cheap t-shirt to experiment with, and try again.

Glad to see you're experimenting! Like I said in the audio, it's more of an art than a science! There are so many factors that are hard to predict! Practice does make perfect!
-
Cool how-to Ruth! How do I turn my shorts into daisy dukes? 🤣

@Ruth Reyes-Loiacano REALLY sharp scissors makes a huge difference!
Below is a photo of my second attempt... I want to make my "Medicine WOman" t-shirt into a tank top (and I am still scared - LOL).
BTW< do you have any suggestions for how the arms and chest are a bit pokey as int he photo below? I am wondering is the organic, super soft tee's for the Medicine Woman won't be quite so 'stiff'. This was a less expsenvie cotton... although well worn.

There isn't much you can do w/ the gaping because it's a t-shirt w/ a lot of ease and stretch. It's just the nature of it.
