Native plants finder
I found this great resource today on the National Wildlife Foundation site. It is a plant finder, you input your zipcode and it finds native plants for your area. It seems right on target as I already have a good percentage of those plants growing wild on my property. Here is the link: https://www.nwf.org/NativePlantFinder/
This site is really interesting, if I were still homeschooling kids I definitely be using the educational materials it provides. Hope you enjoy it.

@VickiP Thank you for sharing. Another good one comes from the National Audubon Society:

@nksunshine27 You are very welcome!

@nksunshine27 Well, if it makes you feel better here is an article on some medicinal uses for invasive, noxious, non-native plants: https://unitedplantsavers.org/noxious-and-invasive-weeds-as-medicine/

@VickiP thanks for this link!!

Thank you. This is great information. Will definitely be looking into all of these as soon as possible. Just got a major snow dump so will be digging out for a few days, plus working full time. Will have to bookmark this for later exploration. LOL

Thanks for sharing these links. Very helpful!

This link is fantastic. Unfortunately for me, most of the native plants in my area do not have photographs with the listing. I will have further cross referencing to do.
-
Sometimes I find a good hard copy field guide to be the best reference for plant ID. I like Audubon and our state conservation dept guides.
-
@VickiP What I find most frustrating with most plant guides is that the photos do not show the whole plant, The writers choose to show the most distinctive part of the plant, in their opinion. The result is I have a flower photo with no clear photo of the leaves. Tree identification should show bark, leaves and flowers/cones.
I certainly will not forage a plant unless I know exactly which plant it is.

Thank you for sharing...

@shllnzl I agree that can be frustrating. I like the hard copy ones to take into the field with me, I have found some field guides on google play that I put on an old phone that I can take with me. The ones on the phone seem to have greater detail. That may work for you. I tried the apps that ID plants but I have no cell phone out in the areas I forage and so far have not found one where I can save the photo and Id later. The phone I take out is pretty old so it is hard to find apps that work with it. 😕

Thanks! A site I look forward to exploring.
