The CDC's New 'Best Estimate' Implies a COVID-19 Infection Fatality Rate Below 0.3%

That rate is much lower than the numbers used in the horrifying projections that shaped the government response to the epidemic.

Ah! so this virus wasn't that bad after all the hype.

This was published on several sites (including the CDC), and I am waiting and watching to see if it ever gets reported on mainstream media.

Here is the link to the CDC report, and below that is www.reason.com 's article.

Absolutely fascinating.

Very interesting, @Marjory Wildcraft. Aren't stats & stories something else. When this began, we were listening to stats and thinking of populations, saying some numbers were off. Remember, my sister was in China at that time too (and is presently still there).

Just like the fatality end of things, most people had other conditions to begin with and just happened to get this to unfortunately finish their lives. I feel bad for those who could not attend family funerals.

I do believe this virus can easily spread, but we don't live in a specially environmentally controlled lab...so some of those reports of how long it lived on surfaces could be off too.

I am not a scientist, but do feel that a person's observation of the parts & the whole, and assessment of those observations is important. Balance in the conclusion is good too, as there is usually 3 sides to the story as they say. Check all angles and be careful not to jump to unfounded/shaky conclusions. That has been quite a challenge in all of this.

We entered this with caution & eyes & ears open, watching (tv, online, friends & aquaintances) as everything unfolded in the greater society and staying out of the city as much as possible. We assessed anything that came our way, and we were bombarded too. There were & still are a lot of inconsistencies, and some power hungry folks (not just politicians) who take advantage of things like this.

I was never panicked, but found the whole scenario more interesting than anything. I was more concerned about people's reactions to whatever they were reading or hearing. There are many who panic first. Now that gets stressful!

What we heard & still hear coming out of the US is pretty sensational and the media is scary. Ours wasn't great, and I won't touch our political storms here, but as I see it, you are in a whole other ball game south of our border.

    Hi @LaurieLovesLearning

My first reaction to all of it was "if it's really an epidemic then it certainly would not be on television". LOL. When the media went crazy, and their stories were so coordinated, it was obivious to me that this was a fabricated event. I subscribed to 6 or 8 media sources (Fox, Bloomberg, Washington Post, Forbes, ect.) just to see what they were publishing. How they managed to drum up so much fear on so scanty of deaths is truly astonishing. To witness how swifty and easily it took down the global economy...

This may seem odd, but in many ways it is a good thing as the economy was on the brink anyway and this was a more compassionate way to deflate it.

But yes, it has been absolutely amazing to see.

I feel quite honored to live through this time.

And, we have a lot more to go through before this year is over

@Marjory Wildcraft I read another article today which said basically the same thing - that the CDC is now saying the death rate is extremely low .26%. I agree with you about it being fabricated - I'd say planned. I've watched news media from several countries and was shocked that every one of them was the exact same just different places and people. Scary!

Sadly, the news media is not reporting this low number. My husband just had the news on and they are scaring everyone with a predicted second wave now. No wonder I couldn't find any toilet paper today! I went to 2 stores that had a good amount last week. Today one store had 2 four packs. I bought one of them.

A second wave of no toilet paper. Oh boy.

We are hearing cautions about a second wave too.

This is great news! As I would expect👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Every death is horrible but glad that the”predictions” were incorrect 🙏🏻

Hi @kbmbillups1 yes, I am waiting to see when this starts (if ever) to get out in the 'mainstream' media. They are sill pumping out fear porn. Have to say I was so disappointed in Mike Adams at the Natural News for leading into the fear bandwagon.

Actually I was really surprised the CDC published these results. Some integrity left in there somewhere? Or is this just the first sign that whom ever is organizing this is ready to move into the next phase?

And yes, it does look like they are trying to prepare us for this again in the Fall.

@Marjory Wildcraft I can't help but think of all those shoppers who will not stand in long lines at the store @-40. Staying in the car would mean it would be idling too. Considering all the previous push to not have cars idle, I imagine this will not go over well in these cold areas.

People are already complaining of standing in line in hot places like Las Vegas.

The CDC has lost my respect completely: they cannot produce tests without cross contamination; masks on, masks off; virus stays on surfaces, doesn't stay on surfaces, stays on surfaces....

Mainstream media has not had my respect for some time, and I am a former journalism student. I'm glad I didn't go into that career, although in my day they were still teaching that journalists were to be objective and let the readers draw their own conclusions.

Yes @shllnzl there is a lot of confusing information out there. I keep going back to, "We don't know much about this virus." 🤔

@shllnzl yes, I had a patient test negative, then positive, then negative again. I heard rumors of tests being contaminated which is concerning. I’ve had 3 patients refuse their procedures or biopsies because they don’t want to be tested and I really don’t blame them. I’ve lost more of our chronic patients since this started than any other time in the 7 years I’ve worked in this department. My heart is heavy for what we are putting them through all the way around

@lmrebert If the infection experts cannot keep from screwing things up, I fear the "scientific method" has been lost.

Thank you and others like you for providing loving care and common sense during these difficult times.

@shllnzl no thanks needed! But thank you anyway! we do what we do the best we can.. it’s our duty. My biggest thing I’m doing until I retire is trying to ease the fear that’s been placed on our patients. The thing that breaks my heart the most is seeing how people have been manipulated into such fear. We take precautions on a daily basis but with the current policies I just don’t see how they make sense. If they did then every patient that I drew blood from or started an IV on would need a hepatitis test or an HIV test. I was starting an IV on a patient before their CT scan the other day and she was fighting her mask and apologizing to me trying to drink through a straw her oral contrast. I just told her it’s OK don’t be afraid you can take your mask down and drink your drink I’m not afraid. The relief on her face warmed my heart. Mental health is the most important thing!

@lmrebert People are starting to back off from their fears. My sister, who is vulnerable in several ways, started the quarantine by scrubbing her house with bleach solution. I didn't try to discourage her because the cleaning gave her a feeling of control. Today she goes out in public, wears a mask in crowded areas, and is beginning to believe the hype was created to further someone's agenda. She and I both will use reasonable precautions but are determined to live our lives as normally as possible.

Today I went back to my gym with a mask in my pocket if needed. I used a bandana around my neck as a sweat towel but never pulled out the mask (masks in my area are optional.)

Maybe if we common sense people all send out the positive, calming karma, we will be able to make a dent in peoples' fears.

@shllnzl @lmrebert People are starting to get over their fears here too. My daughter graduated virtually the other day. Since we haven't been able to have a graduation party most people are sending her cards with money or gift cards. But today friends came to visit! The first person who came by was a friend we've known since before my daughter was born. She's a lot older than my husband and me and has had health issues in the past so she stayed in her house for almost 2 months except to get groceries. She told me the other day she was tired of not seeing people and was coming over and coming inside. She told us that she that she'd just told the cashier at Publix when this was over she was coming back to hug everyone of the workers there. 😀 We all had to best time talking and my daughter loved her gifts.

Then a few hours later we had former neighbors come by. We met them outside in the driveway b/c that's what they wanted to do. We had a good time talking in the rain for about 45 minutes. It was so good to see them b/c my daughters grew up with the three kids who came by with their mom. They picked up where they left off the last time we saw them and we all had a great time talking.

I think people are forgetting how important social interaction for your health and how harmful isolation can be.

I’ve heard the death statistics are actually lower than the “general” flu deaths each year. If they are saying there will be a resurgence their very likely will be. I’ve watched video clips from as far back as 2012, 2015, 2017 that “predicted” all of this. Planned probably so to mandate a forced vaccine on the world. We all need to take a look at the current bill H.R. 6666 (interesting numbers indeed) regarding contact tracing and the powers that will be handed over to the government with regards to our freedoms; health and otherwise. There are also “stipulations” written years ago that will undoubtedly be pulled out when it’s time; their time. While this isn’t about growing food I believe it is about folks who truly care about the planet, their countries, their health, and their freedoms coming together to find the greater good. To work together to make a difference. To share what information we do have-good, bad, or indifferent. Individually we’re all bombarded with information that we need to sort out, categorize, and decide what’s true and best for ourselves and our families. We are constantly being “programmed “ by the news media. Take a look at who actually owns them and it’s abundantly clear that the news we receive is the news that they want us to hear, see, and believe. Any other information gets blocked or taken down (i.e. face book and you tube). It is my belief as a caring group, we need to share ANY information we can grab through the cracks as many will never get to see it before it’s taken down. As far as covid-19 or any virus goes the most important thing is a healthy immune system which is what I believe this group is doing here. Growing healthy food, making our own medicine, and getting healthy 😊 extraordinarily

    *Mod hat on*

I would like to send a caution out before this discussion goes really sour. Please be mindful of the content of posts.

I know that what Marjory originally posted can lead to political talk, conspiracies, sometimes recklessness, & a downward spiral into much negativity. Right now, emotions are heightened and people are easy hurt. This is not what anyone wants to do here is hurt anyone else.

As much as possible, I would like to remind members to try to steer clear of anything sensational & hypothetical, be respectful of others views, and focus on what TGN is about.

As mods have discussed, there are plenty of other active forums where conspiracy theories can be tossed about. Our focus here should be on growing food & growing medicine. TGN, at its core, is not a conspiracy nor a sensational discussion site. We are about growth...of our food, medicine & as a result of productive discussion, the growth in knowledge & skills of those around us.

Please keep this in mind going forward. With that, I am now going to close this thread.

    Thank you.

Hi @LaurieLovesLearning I sincerely appreciate keeping this forum calm! And we do need to try an keep sources as reliable as possible. The main problem with that is... what source is reliable??? Clearly the mainstream media has an agenda and is highly controlled to put out a specific message. And while conspiracy theorists reportings definitely means caveat emptor I find many of them very interesting and often more accurate than what is being pumped out to the masses.

I definitely don't want to turn this forum into a political or theory rant. And I think it is a place where we can share insights and ideas that you may not find elsewhere. And we should all keep our heads about us and seek to know what is true in our own hearts and minds.

Here is a piece that I find very interesting... Below is an article published by the New England Journal of Medicine and is co-authored by Dr. Fauci himself. This was published in late Feburary. In it, Dr. Fauci declares the Corona virus to be very similar in fatality characteristics as a regular flu season. I've insisted from the beginning this is a manufactured event. I'm not doing that to incite anyone or create controversy. I'm even not against what is occurring... as economic collapse was inevitable anyway and I think this way of organizing the descent is a very compassionate way to do it. My primary motive is to help people from being unnecessairly gripped by fear.

I wonder, knowing what he clearly knew, what motivates a man like Dr. Fauci to do what he has done? There are many more machinations going on behind the scenes and I am sure he is privy to much more about what is going on. So curious to me.
