HOW DO YOU CURE SQUASH? HELP!
Hey ya'll! I know all my fellow gardening TGN friends will be excited to hear that some of my squash bloomed today! This is my second year gardening and this year I am growing BUTTERCUP squash for the first time! One thing I was wondering was, how to cure squash so that it will keep in a cool basement? I've heard of curing squash but I have no idea how to do it! Help!😦

🥳 That is great! I can't help you much on the curing end, since it has been a while since I have cured squash for keeping. I tend to process it & freeze it.
I have some idea from listening to my mom & grandfather, but in case I miss something (and it is important), I will leave this answer up to someone else.
I just wanted to celebrate with you.

Thank you so much LaurieLovesLearning! I mean, squash blooming is cause for celebration right?!

@COWLOVINGIRL All blossoms in a garden are reason for celebration but squash blossoms are so big and bright. Love them. My daughter doesn't like squash but she grows them in containers anyway for the greenery and the beautiful, big flowers.
Sorry, no help here on curing squash, either.

Here is a pretty good article on curing squash: https://www.growveg.com/guides/curing-pumpkins-and-winter-squash/ I never used the olive oil but will try that with some this year.

Thank you guys! And thanks for the article VickiP, I'm going to go check that out right now! Also, after I started this thread yesterday, that afternoon I found a video that was really informative. For those of us that are not familiar with curing squash, she explains it very well.

I just read the article VickiP! His method totally makes sense. I can't wait to enjoy buttercup squash all winter!
