Fennel
What can I do with fennel? A friend gave me some fresh cut from her garden and I'm not sure what to do with it! Suggestions please!!

I am growing fennel with the plan to let it self sow and then harvest fennel bulbs in the future for cooking. There are some recipes I like, but a fennel bulb is too expensive for me to cook with often.
There are are lots of ways to cook with the fronds as well. Here are a few ideas:

So cool! Thank you for posting this. I am growing fennel as well. I love the flavor of fennel but not the texture! I had the idea to make some cold treats with it, juice it, mix with some citrus, honey and coconut milk, as a healthy ice cream alternative. What do you cook with yours? I want to do more savory recipes with fennel and learn to love it! haha

My favorite recipe is to roast fennel bulb wedges with Cauliflower and Italian sausage for a simple one pan meal. I am not a really a fan of the texture of the fronds either. Lol

fennel bulb is really delicious, as already mentioned. The seeds, though, can be made into a tea which is really nice for digestion and upset stomach. Or toast them and toss with a little sea salt and chew them after a meal!

I am growing fennel this year with the plan to let it self sow for future harvest of fennel bulb. I like cooking with it, but the bulb is somewhat expensive to purchase often.
there are many ways to use the fronds as well, they impart a licorice flavor. Here are a few ideas:
The first medicinal use that comes to mind is for tummy troubles. It is easy to make a tea.
Doc jones would probably tell you to just eat it like he suggests with parsley-never underestimate the power of food as medicine. 😁

Sheesh, I made that last post before all the others. My internet is on the fritz today. Sorry about double posting lol

I like a bit of the bulb cut up into potato soup!

One of my favourites. Sliced up fine in salads, anything left over in the juicer but the best recipe for me is. Slice fennel bulb reasonably fine, saute with 1onion sliced and 3 or 4 cloves of garlic. Then add a cup of vegetable stock and poach. Makes a lovely side dish or a nice layer in a vegetable lasagne.

I restaurant I like offers fennel seeds mixed with little candies as an after dinner digestion aid/sweet. It’s actually a great combination!

Here is a salad I never get sick of. My sister made it for me and I CRAVE it all the time. It's been years. Soooooo good!

I just got fennel in my CSA share this week. I was wondering what to do with the fronds.

Was up early this morning (2:30 am), so I separated out the fennel bulbs and blanched those to put in the freezer. I noticed that I had new stalks coming up. Well, it's experiment time. I'm going to try and see if fennel can be re-grown off the old core; as long as there is new growth coming in.

Thank you, @MelissaLynne. My research recently uncovered that fennel can be good for IBS/spastic colon, so I have been looking for ways to incorporate it into our diet, since we have a family member who suffers greatly. These recipes will help out a lot!

Fennel is a carminitive. It's good for reducing excess gas. It can help with digestion. Excellent for a digestive tea. In Ayurveda there is this tea formula called CCF tea with fennel, cumin and coriander to help with digestion.
