Anybody Know What Vegetable This Is?
I got my box of fruit and veggies the other day and this was in it. I did an image search of root vegetables and came up with two things I thought it might be. I was thinking of going to a farmer's market and looking around to see if I could find some so I could identify it. And then thought hopefully you guys will know what it is and how to cook it.

Not a clue. The only thing that popped into my mind was jicama from the 1st picture, but the 3rd picture knocked that out.

Sure looks like a jicama to me.
If it is, when you cut it open, it should be white and crunchy. Good ones are a little juicy and sweet- kind of like a cross between a raw turnip and an apple. They're great cut up like carrot sticks with dip, or tossed with a little lime juice, salt, and red pepper.

@blevinandwomba I will cut it open later and see what it looks like inside. Thanks!
-
@kbmbillups1 let us know what the inside is, please!
-
@seeker.nancy - Central Texas I finally tried to peel it. It is kind of sweet & crunchy but really doesn't have a taste.
-
That’s definitely jicama!! I peel it and slice it and eat it like raw carrot sticks. You can sprinkle it with chile powder and lime juice. Some people like it sprinkled with cinnamon too.
-
@Megan Venturella Chile powder & lime sounds really good! Thanks
-
Jicama! You can add to green salads. :)
-
TURNIP?

Jicama for sure! They are fantastic, though they seem to go bad quickly on the rare occasions we find them in Alaska. great raw or cooked. Used them on a keto diet as mashed potato substitute. They were also good fried, though they never got crispy.

Thanks to you guys I know it's jicama. I've cut it up and put it in our salad and took @Megan Venturella and sprinkled chile powder and lime juice on some of it. Pretty good both ways!
I've seen other posts have accepted answer on them. Anyone know how to do that?
-
Glad you found out what it is and tried it out-way to go! :)

Jicama is one of my favorites. It is definitely jicama. It is good in sticks (raw) or shredded to make a slaw.
-
Definitely a jicama. They are mild tasting and juicy. They are good raw and also in stir fry.
-
It does look like jicama and I use them when I make my version of P.F. Chang's vegetable lettuce wraps in place of the water chestnuts.
-
Yes. They are like water chestnuts. Lots of water in them.
