Herbal definitions
Is there a post somewhere on the Grow Network to get a definition of some of the herbal terms?
Such as vulnerary, adaptogen and so on.
Thank you in advance for your help.

@vickeym That is a good question. @Merin Porter is there anything?
If not, maybe we could ask someone if they were willing to put one together in one solid resource rather than a zillion posts.

Here is a good one: https://www.theherbwalker.ca/glossary-of-herbal-terms/

This is a good site that you have posted @judsoncarroll4.
I have contacted Merin to see if TGN would like a blog post on the subject or maybe a handout to go with the Home Medicine 101 course. Great idea @LaurieLovesLearning.

good idea!
-
That's a very good idea. I know I would benefit from the study of all the many different herbal definitions.
-
No, but it would be great to have. We have a post on botanical terms, but not on herbal terms..... I agree that it's needed.
-
That would be something I would be grateful to be able to study.

@judsoncarroll4 Thank you for this site, It does indeed help. While I have been trying to learn herbal medicine for a bit now, I still consider myself fairly new. There is so much to learn and so many new terms to try and grasp it becomes overwhelming sometimes.
Having a place to go look them up or jog my memory is a big help.

Thanks for the link! I have been keeping a journal of terminology as I learn a new one. I keep saying I will organize it alphabetically "someday".

I was doing some research and came across this page at the American Botanical Council on Terminology.
It has a section with the plant parts in Latin. Important if you are trying to figure out which plant part has been used in a recipe; the root, leaf, flower, bark, peel or seed of a plant. Or for recording your own recipes. I know how easy it is to forget what you have put in something if it isn't written down on the label and in a recipe book. Did I use the root in this or the leaf? I've had to throw out more than one bottle of preparations, even though it had just been a short time since making it.

This is wonderful. Having it all in one place will be a great help. I copied the page and website to put in my notebook for when I am not online. Since I live off grid, we do not always have access to the internet as we try to conserve power in our batteries whenever we can.

@judsoncarroll4 and @torey Thank you for those sites. They are a tremendous help. I've bookmarked them so I can reference them as I need to.😁👍️
-
@judsoncarroll4 @torey thank you for sharing these sites. Very useful to have information in one place.
-
I gave this thread the honor of being an announcement/sticky within the category. 😄 Keeping things like this handy & easy to find is important!
-
Good to know about these sources.
-
@vickeym isn’t this just the greatest forum with a bunch of kind, generous & informed people? Great inquiry-great result. Go team.
-
Yes, it sure is! Love this group. I tell everyone about it.
@LaurieLovesLearning Thank you this will be great to have it easy to find.
-
Thanks for the link to the definitions. For some reason, my word oriented brain can't seem to retain most of the herbal definitions.
-
You're not the only one to have that problem @shllnzl.
I can't remember them that well either. And sometimes I get the definitions mixed up. 🤦
-
It's alot to learn.
