Webworms
So I have lived at my place for a couple of years now in Southeastern AL and the native persimmon tree gets webworms each year and they destroy all of the fruit. In investigating I can remove the webs or I can spray with Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki. I am unfamiliar with both the worms and the spray so I knew this is the place to find out more.

I don't know anything about webworms but I have used BTK in the past. It is very effective and specific to caterpillars and associated soft-bodied insect/worms. It is approved for use in organic applications in most jurisdictions.

Old-timers around here always swore by opening the web up and letting the birds eat the webworms.
