Covid 19 vaccine

I know this has been discussed before but cannot find the discussion.

After talking to many people at my hospital, i plan on taking the vaccines. Most likely not the first round since there are many more at more risk than i. We know more about SARS, the actual virus that causes Covid infections, studies are promising. We battled SARs in the past...then it just "died out". Here it is back...it will come back again in the future. Maybe by taking the vaccines i will be protected from future onslaughts. However, most likely this will not be a one time event...like measles we will need booster shots in the future.

I'm concerned about the new mRNA technology in some of the covid vaccines. So I am going to wait and see what happens with them. In the meantime, the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine (MMR) has been shown in a study to reduce the severity of coronavirus significantly, so for people who aren't sensitive to vaccines, this is possibly an option. The MMR vaccine has been around for decades and is relatively safe as far as vaccines go.

Just a caution. Anyone who has immunosuppression issues or who is pregnant should not take MMR vaccine.

I'm not going to take it willingly.

@frogvalley It would be harder if millions were involved...but I would still have to live with my decision. The mind and guilt can be a great enemy that destroys all in the end with no survivors.

It certainly made for a stressful couple of days. First, I said that I'd take part, but was very hesitant. I reasoned it as I would study them...and of course I would...that's what I do. But when they sent the second part that I summarized above, I knew that I could not take part. To sign a legal document at that smells of big trouble.

People here are already betraying others for nothing (through the snitch lines), so not even getting $50, and I know of a group some who sought out permission from law enforcement to meet & were still fined. If they had been told no, they would not have met. These are folks who won't fight back. They know this. For this to happen is low and cowardly.

I have always wanted to help others. See them succeed. Be happy. Fairness is important. Respecting others is important. Listening to understand before acting is important.

I don't see that as being a hero. It is just being human.

    Thank you for your words.

It has been scientifically proven that money can't buy happiness, but that doesn't stop people from trying. Unfortunately, when money is involved, integrity often flies out the window.

My concern with the vaccine is the lack of testing and chemical additives.

I am keeping an eye on the vaccines being given in England. I do want to take one but only after I am sure it is "safe." I use scare quotes because I think safety is a subjective measure and the risks any one is willing to take are highly individual and depends on the circumstances and health of the individual. Another issue I can see is the variety of vaccines being developed. Do go with Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson or Moderna etc.? How do you know which one you would trust the most? How do you know how the vaccine is made, it's ingredients? So yeah, I have questions. Still I definitely hope they develop one I feel safe in taking.

@VickiP Would you even get a choice in which one?

So sorry for what is happening.

I know someone who said he decided not to take it after seeing the list of ingredients. Each person has to take responsibility to do their own research to weigh the pros and cons and make their own decision. Then, respect everyone else's right to do the same.

Visiting family is going to be complicated if they decide to make it mandatory for international travel and one has decided not to take it.

My husband works for Xerox and supports a hospital in the work he does. Most likely he will be considered a medical employee and be in the first tier to be offered the vaccine. It does worry me a little, but I also know the vaccine is meant to protect from the virus. I'm trying my best to have faith in it all working out.

@Gail H I am sorry to hear that. It has got to be difficult. Canning is good anyway and has been done for generations. I am actually surprised that they are going after that.

We cannot visit with others here. It is highly discouraged. We are to stay home. But we can meet others briefly for essential deliveries.

We don't have a lot for Christmas this year. We won't have gifts not like we really need them). Our kids have accepted that, I think. But, we are planning to put together a few small things (vanilla beans/extract to be or baking and things of that sort) and do short "distanced" deliveries to those whom we have been encouraged by & those we wish to support. We haven't seen our oldest daughter since mid October. That has been the longest we've ever been apart. Before that, visits became very few & strained. She is now starting to say that she misses us.

It will be a lot of driving to make these deliveries, but so very worthwhile. It is certainly essential (and food items are considered essential)...and it gives us a positive outing that will make a difference, even if only a little.

@LaurieLovesLearning Gifting baking items is a great thing to be doing every year but even more so this year. If we can't be with friends and family, we can at least have those taste memories and taste hugs.

We are not in a complete lock-down here but also cannot visit with anyone outside of our immediate households, with that in place till January 8th. But we still hear on the news about people who are getting fined for having large parties.

I haven't seen any mention of restricted access for people who haven't been vaccinated here yet. But I can see it coming. BC (particularly Vancouver) is a major entry/departure port and I can see those restrictions on travel coming. Our top doc is also saying that vaccines won't be mandatory but that doesn't mean they aren't planning restrictions.

@torey Ours has been extended to the same date as well. I think that this way, it covers Ukranian Christmas celebrations as well.

I am positive that is the majority of what that focus group agenda will be about. That and possibly the mandatory idea at some point. Restrictions are the first step to try. It is timely & fits too well.

We are not in lock down here, but I have just seen a whole new and frightening side of this issue. I just got word that a friend's son was seriously injured in an auto accident three days ago. He could not be taken to the nearest hospital, because it is full--no beds available, and over half are taken by covid patients. He could not be taken to the 2nd nearest nor the 3rd nearest--same reason. He had to be life-flighted to a hospital over 90 miles away. That was the nearest one that had a bed for him. Fortunately he is in stable condition now and expected to pull through. You can imagine what his family is going through.

I don't know what is right or wrong in the lock-down debate or the vaccine debate. But I do know that things around here are very scary. Something has to happen, or it is all going to get even worse.

@MaryRowe That is scary. I am glad he is stable.

Confusion is what we are living in. I find it difficult as well. I have my thoughts. Others have theirs. And some things are certainly just not clear at all no matter how anyone tries to assess them. It is just all strange/alien to everyone. Unfortunately, I think that this is just the beginning of more hardship ahead...whatever that may be.

Please take care of you and your family. This news has got to have been difficult for you too. 💐

@LaurieLovesLearning I find some positive regarding all this craziness on greenmedinfo.com. Around the world there are legal actions starting and medical specialists getting more vocal. Unfortunately, many people "consume" the media that is fed to them and do not question for conflict of interests.

As much as you can, remember that you control your thoughts and feelings. Find the good in the little every day things. This too will pass and those who took for granted how life was before the "Rona" will appreciate with full measure again.

@Silkiemamuska Thank you for the encouragement.

Today is finally better...at least for now. We got some packages in the mail (with bubble wrap...doesn't that make you feel good?), I do have eggs closer to their hatch date & we are still, one day, expecting a calf. These are all good things.

Our children are content. They are busy & healthy and are excited about giving to extra special people this year. Our real tree will be tiny (no space), but that's okay. We will pick it out of a ditch when we do our fun-to-make deliveries. We are making the best out of our current situation.

We are trusting that our God knows what he is allowing and why, even when for us, in the situation, it is difficult to see & understand.

It looks like I won't be encouraged to take the vaccine- at least for now. I'm dreadfully allergic to penicillin.

I saw a report on that. This is similar to the one that I saw.

One friend of ours can't take it because he cannot have contact with any metals (oh boy, my spell check tried to correct as "mortals" 🤣😇 ) due to an allergy to those. I wonder how much a metal as a carrier will affect people...and what is that metal exactly. Does anyone know?

Some of our kids have allergies too, but at this point, all but one are considered too young anyway.

I don't like what our health minister is claimed to have said (end of article) about the risk/benefit...what? Anaphylaxis causes death...I don't think that the virus outweighs that. Hopefully they will have exceptions for allergies like any other vaccine. But, who knows anymore.

I think there is more yet to be discovered about these fast-tracked vaccines.

A friend of mine posted this picture on his WhatsApp status, and I had something (tactful) say to about it. He asked me if I read it. So I went back, read it again, and busted out laughing. It's a good example of why we need to take the time to investigate well before judging.

My brother traveled a week or two before Thanksgiving. He was tested before he left and when he arrived at his destination. He got pneumonia while he was there. Went to dr and was tested again and told he had pneumonia. Tested again before leaving to come home and again on his arrival home. All negative. He gets bronchitis every year, is diabetic and has limited kidney funtion from the meds tgey had him on for his diabetes. Pneumonia was lingering and got worse last week. Ended up in hospital where they immediately said he had covid. But released him the next day after treating for dehydration and the pneumonia. While there several of the staff in discussions with him told him the hospital recieved extra funds for treating covid patients and for covid related deaths. They were being told any cold, flu, pneumonia, or heart failure were to be listed as covid aling with any other illness that could possibly be related. Any death they could including a gun shot victim was to be listed as covid. I certainly don't trust the government but I also no longer trust the doctors either.

@LaurieLovesLearning I was watching a vaccine documentary not too long ago. I think I watched something similiar last year but at the end of the year I did take the flu shot. I have reason to believe it made my pseudo gout worse in my hands. I learned that there was enough mercury in the flu shot (used in manufacturing and isn't counted as one of the metals) that it would take a 550 pound man to be able to assimilate it.

I just read an article that lists 20 side effects including "death" and these are major body problems including anaphylaxis. I am allergic to so many drugs and herbs made into hand lotions that I almost quit breathing. My windpipe actually closed up one day when someone wearing a lavender hand lotion walked by where I was sitting. I was shocked!

I appreciate your knowledge and I will pray that you will be able to find the calm that you need at this time!

I have to agree with @frogvalley and @karenjanicki. I choose not to take part in it. I also completely agree with @Tave that each person has to educate themselves and make their own decision of what is best for them.

For the most part my children have not had vaccinations. About 20 years ago, when my oldest child was a newborn, the FDA approved a new vaccine. Not having as much life experience as I do now. I just went along with what the doctor recommended without doing my own research. I didn't know that the vaccine was new, nor did I think to ask. That shot landed my daughter in the hospital for the fight of her life. She wasn't the only one. The vaccine was recalled a few months later and they labeled my daughter a statistic. My daughter survived the ordeal, but some weren't so lucky. In general, I'm glad that people that want to be vaccinated have the option. I feel that there are far more risks involved then "the powers that be" want to admit.

This year has been unbearably hard for so many people I genuinely hope that everyone will fine some peace from it soon.
