Tanning hides by natural methods

(No children were harmed during this activity.) 😆

Tanning hides...have any of you done this? There are courses in BC that cover different methods, nettle cordage, and much more. I find the offerings fascinating, but unless they are online, the only access to teaching that we would have from here is buying books...or taking courses locally if we could find any.

Mara from Crow's Nest was in a community near me doing Sheep Tanning a couple of years ago. So I know she travels to do classes. Maybe if you could get a group together (when we are allowed to do so again), she would travel to your area for a class.

@torey That would be very interesting, for sure!

We do know a Frenchman here who prepared & smoked deer hides. He made jackets for his family with them. I don't know if he did much more beyond that, though.
