Baker Creek Field Trip

My brother came up from Oklahoma this past week, and wanted to go to Baker Creek Heritage Seeds to get some plants for his pollinators. It's the dead of winter here, but it's not too far from Cabool, Missouri, where Mom and my sister live. Only the seed store was open, but boy, was it a fun trip! I only got a few for my patio garden. Jim got what he wanted, and my sister got a bunch, too. She has a place she can make a medicinal herb garden!

Fantastic! I routinely buy seeds from Baker Creek, although I have to be careful about climate since they are much warmer than my northern location. I've had good luck with most of their seeds.
It's too bad there isn't a Baker Creek or similar high-quality seed shop within easy driving distance. High Mowing Seeds is based in Vermont and I've had good luck with their seeds as well, but they don't appear to have a live, in-person store outlet.

What a neat and fun place to visit!
-
I’m so jealous! I used to live near their California seed bank and I loved going. I miss it so much! My family used to go across the street for pie when I took too long :)
-
Wow! I bet that was fun!
-
I would be in SO much trouble in there. I would have to mortgage the house or sell the car or something. lol
I get their catalog. Love most everything about them. Just wish they gave hardiness zones for all the varieties and not just a few.
-
It was so hard to stick to my 50.00 budget! I did buy the big catalog for 9.99, which I will keep on the shelf as a reference.
-
Yeah... I could basically drop a year's income there!
-
The only thing that kept me from going wild is that I have such a small patio space!
-
Oh wow! I didn't know they had a store where you could look at all the seeds and everything.😃
I'm with you @judsoncarroll4 I could easily spend a year's income there too.🤑
I'm just so excited about the seeds I did get from them this year, varieties I've been wanting to try but needed more space for. That's no longer an issue. It's now about finding a container to get the seeds started in that's proving to be the problem. I have so many seeds to start and not enough containers/seed trays to start them in.🙃
@Mary Linda Bittle, West Plains, Missouri Those pictures you took of the rows and rows of seeds had me all antsy wanting to pick up out few more. 😍
-
@JennyT Upstate South Carolina I didn't even get photos of all the seeds because I thought it would be rude to take photos of strangers!
I felt a lot better about my own winter garden when I saw all the bare beds there!

What an awesome field trip. Probably a good thing I don't live close enough to go in person. I already have a seed buying problem just from catalogs...
Bakers field just had a donation day where all proceeds went to a good cause. I bought seeds I didn't even know I wanted until I got that email 😜
-
Ohhhhh, I would be in pain. I would want way too many seeds, would probably drool and would have to be removed at closing.
I love their seeds. I have a friend that has acclamated a few of their warmer weather seed varieties over the years to fit our climate.
-
I am so jealous, but I would definitely buy too many as well (I get in trouble on the website lol). How much do you think the whole store would cost? 🤔😂
-
I don't know how to even calculate the value of the entire store! LOTS!
-
@Mary Linda Bittle, West Plains, Missouri While you flip through the catalogue..the big one, the one you bought, consider how many of those pictures would look awesome in a picture frame, decorating your walls. Even some of the pictures with the description close enough to it to include that/those in your decorating. That's what I do and it brings rooms to life with the pictures of the same plants I will have in my yard/garden. Just a thought. I'm glad you had such a good time and thank you for the pictures.

@silvertipgrizz that's a great idea! The catalog is so beautiful. We plan to go back when it's warmer and more things to enjoy.
The seed packs would look nice framed, too!

@Mary Linda Bittle, West Plains, Missouri What a great idea! I never thought about that!
Great minds think alike 😊🐞

I bought seeds last year and have enough for this year too. The seed store looks awesome. Thanks for sharing.

My mouth almost dropped at all the seeds. such great variety. Alas, I could never buy them all, pllant them all, nor cultivate them all. Dreams!
-
I cannot imagine a garden large enough to plant even a portion of them!
