Potato's juice for reducing stomach acid
I got covid on the last day of the year. It was my first and last day when I really felt ill. Fever 38C was not too high, although I felt it in my joints. My first medicine is sleep, but I could not fall asleep, as I got this most unpleasant feeling from a very high stomach acidity. I have never experienced that before as…

How to treat a salivary gland infection
My DIL has a salivary gland infection, I am looking for non invasive methods to treat it. I remember reading years ago, that Marjorie had several infections that were treated in the hospital and then she decided to treat it holistically and she was successful. Anyone remember how she treated it?

Juniper Infused Oil
Rosalee de la Foret has a new interview posted on Juniper with Nicole Telkes (yes, the same Nicole that writes for TGN and did the Herbal Medicine 101 course in the Academy). It includes a recipe for a juniper infused oil. Juniper is something that I harvest whenever I come across a bush with berries but I've never made a…

I’m interested to know what others have learnt from being involved with the TGN forums? What’s your number one thing that made you go yes, yes, yes, I will keep doing that because it works. Mine is being able to turn my herbs into medicine & using that homemade end product into a useful action. So much so that I’m…

Facebook is not a place that I would normally turn to for tips, but lately it has had some interesting/fun tips. Here is one I saw this morning.

Growing potatoes in a small urban garden
I'd like to hear from anyone here who has successfully grown a productive potato patch in a very small garden. My past attempts to grow potatoes either in raised beds or grow bags of soil have had poor productivity. Sources I have read say I should get 5X to 10X the weight of potatoes that I planted in seed, but I…

black pepper and turmeric
I was listening to a webinar today. I don't remember the name of the "expert" but they said something I'm curious if anyone here can collaborate. They were talking about using black pepper with turmeric and how most people think it increases the bioavailability of the turmeric (I'd include myself in that category) but if…

A British style greenwood spoon
A twisted, knotty piece of wood I axed out yesterday made a decent spoon. I'll refine the lines after it dries a bit and probably do some carved decoration on the handle. Overall, I'm pleased as is a very comfortable eating spoon.

Organizing a pantry - Help
My grandfather stored pantry food in a special mouse proof room in the barn and left the light on in the winter to keep it just warm enough that nothing would freeze. He would go out twice a week and bring over what was needed. But alas, the barn fell in a few years back. (we live in his old farm house now) I was going to…

New member: Tips for Getting Started
Hi everyone. I am excited to be a new member of this community. I have a lot to learn from all of you. I have had a garden in years past, but it was not very successful for many reasons. One issue I have is the soil is primarily clay and difficult to work with. So, I want to try my hand at raised garden beds. I have two…

Firewood Day
A few days ago, we had one and a half cords of sawed and split firewood delivered. We buy a load of green, unseasoned wood every spring, then let it season until the next winter. (Green wood is cheaper and more readily available than dry, seasoned wood.) So two days ago, my husband and I spent a large part of the day…

Food as Medicine
I thought this was an interesting article about adapting recipes for different dietary needs. Herbalist tip for cuts
As usual, I cut myself using a very sharp knife when distracted. I don't wear gloves. No big deal, even though this was a fairly good cut or two. Herbalist tip: Have crystalized pine pitch on hand to stop bleeding, help prevent infection and speed healing for even deep cuts.

Losses
We had a cow that miscarried about a month early. It wasn't long after that she died. We don't know why. It's one of those things, unfortunately. We seem to experience these things a lot though. 🤷♀️ So, the calf will feed the puppies and the cow will feed the dogs. We have 2 bred jerseys (due in late summer), a highland…

Wow, it is almost April and we got a severe thunderstorm warning around 10 am and now we just got a tornado warning for central San Diego! That is crazy!
