Anyone into basket weaving?
I am thinking about turning some of the vines on my property into baskets. I really like the British style willow baskets and the Cherokee/Appalachian honeysuckle baskets... etc - old style, useful baskets. Can anyone recommend a good book or two that might get me started?

Burdock wrapped Pork Spleen
While cutting our big pig up yesterday, we saw the spleen. We've never tried it before. It's been dog food. This time, we'll eat it. It's the wrong time of year for us to find burdock, but thought that the recipe might be appreciated here.…

Here is a very well thought out article on the most publicized animal virus of our day. He makes some very good points...and says them out loud.

Coffee (filtering) Question
This is a bit odd but we use a camp style coffee pot and can't seem to find one that has both a good fitting lid on the pot and a basket that the lid fits well enough not to boil the grounds out of the top of the basket. The basket seem to be very short (shallow) now days with lids that just lightly sits on the top letting…

The weather is so amazing here.
Usually we are buried in snow and may be having 20 degree weather. February is usually our really impossible winter month. Yesterday was 65 and today is in the 50's. Much nicer than the cold snowy weather we expect. I have been out as much as possible this morning and afternoon getting work done that needed to be done and…

Resin & Gum Medicines
Last year I was going to share this on the forum but it was so long that it wasn't possible to do it all in one post. So, instead, I asked the editors here at TGN if they would like to use it for a blog post. They were kind enough to do so, with editing and pics, making is so much more presentable! If anyone is interested…

Anyone know of raccoon repellent?
I'm finally going to be brave and try my two tower gardens outside (Greenstalk and Garden Tower.) I have planned a location for them that hopefully limits the destructiveness of my desert sun. I am gearing up to fight my numerous pests. The raccoons will be the hardest to discourage and potentially the most destructive of…

The FDA is at it AGAIN!
I received an email from Ana Maria Vasquez with the below - I never thought I'd live in such a strange time where the natural & holistic methods I use to keep myself and my animals healthy could be taken away. Concern for the ability to access homeopathic remedies easily and freely continues. We've seen this in other…

Water retention before period
Good old horsetail - equisetum. Not only good for teeth. Today I read a short article about equisetum helping against water retention before the period. It is recommended to take equisetum tea or Globuli (Equisetum D6, 5-5-5) some 5 to 7 days before the period starts. and to avoid coffee, black tea, products with white…

Preventing Carotid artery disease
Preventing Carotid artery disease I’ve read an interesting short article (Natur&Heilen 2/2023) about natural measures for carotid artery’s blockage. It is in German, thus I am just sharing what interested me in the article and what I have included in my daily prevention measures. The interesting aspect is that carotid…

Building greenhouse shelves
Here is a picture of me taking apart a chain to put “s” hooks on. I will hang the grow lights from these movable chains. I bought fancy grow lights, but I have to wear special dark glasses so I don’t get macular degeneration when I am older, so wishing I bought fluorescent lights. More pictures to come. What is your setup…

Recent Second Hand Treasures
I went to a bag sale yesterday at a local second hand store. It was 1 large garbage bag full for $10 or a small shopping bag for $3. I found some pretty nice things, a small crock pot thing without a lid that I hope isn't too hot for resins & salves, a sewing basket with lid made out of an apple basket, that I might use as…

Remember our shortages threads?
Has anyone been seeing a shortage of cornstarch? We have only found tiny containers of it and the prices are sky high. Many places have none at all, and this appears to be an ongoing thing. Our milk pudding can be made with flour, and we have been doing that. However, I had the strange to me realization that it was just…

Use for onions
OK, first post here and I figured if anyone would know this, yall would. Last flu season I made a syrup with a white onion and sugar. I am horrible at writing ANYTHING down so I dont remember if there was a ratio to it. Best I remember I dropped half an onion in a jar with a couple table spoons of white sugar. Let it set…

Turmeric Tincture - Update
I've never made a turmeric tincture before. My husband isn't very good about taking the proper dose of a tincture. He takes a squirt of whatever goes into the dropper without measuring. So he has been using capsules. However, the last time I looked in the health food store, they had increased in price dramatically. I know…
