Very successful fermenting experiment
I tried making a natural kraut out of the stems of turnips, mustard and collard greens. I usually just throw them in the compost. It turned out fantastic and very different from cabbage sauerkraut!

Don't believe in electroculture
There has been some discussion of a gardening fad called "electroculture". The idea is that you stick a wire in the ground near the growing plants to serve as an antenna and bring electrical potential to the growing plants. The YouTuber "Garden Like a Viking" did an experiment in his garden, with some plants having these…

Lip Balm Recipes
There are a few recipes posted for lip balms under different categories, but I thought it might be a good idea to have a discussion just for a collection of lip balm recipes. Thyme Cookies with Balsamic Vinegar Syrup
These cookies were a hit years ago when I made them. I think I'll make them tomorrow. After tasting them once again, then I will decide if I want to make the dip or not. I don't think that went over as well.

Pfeffernusse/Peppernut Cookies
These are a popular Christmas snacking cookie in Germany & among the Mennonite people. I know them by their Low German name. We cut ours straight across in tiny little "pillows" and didn't glaze them. These were placed out in a bowl for snacking on after having been stored in a jar. They are addictive and go very well with…

The Herbal Academy is offering a short free course, intended to give us a better idea of which herbs to choose for a certain issue or condition. Drying bean seeds in humid climate
My bean varieties are relatively rare, so seeds can be hard to buy. I try to save some for seed. I harvested my remaining bean plants around first frost, dumping the entire plants in the garage. The hope was that they would be protected from wetness, and dry to good, usable seeds. But although there's no water in the…

Rifle season & livestock
I posted this on a local forum. I am posting this here too because I know we most likely have a lot of readers (since we are a public forum) who will be new to hunting or may engage in unsafe practices. We had one guy at about 8:45 am today, in a newer (possibly 2017) white Ford F150 crew cab with a white box stop on the…

Design Plans for 2023
Last year I got the idea to come up with a plan from @judsoncarroll4 so I thought I would take the time in winter to create my 2023 plan. It sort of was started by nature, we had a lot of rain in December and after the rain I realized that some Kale seeds and potatoes I planted last year came up! I am hoping that once I…
