Your All Time Favorite Thing that you have learned on this forum is...?
So much wonderful info is shared here. I am wondering what your all-time favorite piece of info has been? My favorite thing was when we wrote a new 12 Days of Christmas and then @JodieDownUnder sang it - I loved that!

Anyone have experience treating lymphocytic colitis?
With a new diagnosis for an old problem, I’m trying to find any credible information about all aspects of this “very common” problem. I’m also interested in the origins of it, is it communicable or familial?

Old Sayings/Clichés: Let's have some fun!
I tend to use a lot of old sayings when I write here. My goodness, I only usually recognize them when I write them down, otherwise, I can't think of any specifically. Haha I know some are quite common over a wide area, and some are quite specific to a region. Considering, I thought that it could be fun to swap a few,…

Passive activism
I spent a large part of my day in the vegetable garden. Planting out seedlings that I’ve been nurturing from seed for the last month. Spring has sprung down under and the weather is glorious. Had the radio on & this afternoon I listened to a conversation on “passive activism” A professor at a university in Australia has…

Muscovys
Does anyone raise Muscovy ducks? I had my first pair about 5 years ago. I heard mixed reviews on them as they have claws and are hard to catch. They are not as friendly as some ducks, although mine seem pretty nice. You don't get as many eggs from them because the ducks will not give them up without a fight - great moms!…

My hens haven't moulted yet this year - is that a problem?
It's already the start of fall, and only one girl (out of 12 hens, 2 geese and a duck) has even begun to think about moulting. The rest all seem to still have bright, tight feathers, almost as good as when they came out of their last moult. The one girl who has lost a few tail feathers recently is seven years old. The rest…

Cherry Tomato Jam
The other day I was gifted a box of cherry tomatoes. Red & orange ones. But far too many to use before they would all go bad. So, Cherry Tomato Jam. I had heard of tomato jam before but had never had it or made it. I did some googling for recipes and then made up my own based on what I had at hand. Here is what I came up…

Seed starting - how can I grow a stronger plant?
I start my own seed in the spring and l’m usually successful but it seems my stocks are usually kind of spindly. I buy seed starter mix, transplant to a larger container early, and use a grow light. Any suggestions?

Increasing and decreasing milk supply
Aloha, I seem to be in a bit of a bind. I have one doe I'm trying to dry up and another who isn't producing as much as I know she's capable of. The one I'd like to dry up has been in production for 2 years. Even though I've taken her off of hot feed and don't milk her out completely, she keeps producing 1/2 gallon/day.…

Help with Raising Goats course
I joined TGN specifically because I was interested in this course. Why is it the only course (that I’ve found so far) that forces you to take the quizzes before being able to watch the modules you’re really there for? That said, I was OK with doing the first few lessons but now I’m trying to answer the quiz for lesson 4…

follow up on "we will all get COVID"
NOTE FROM ADMIN: The following reflects the opinion of the author and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the TGN team. In January 2021, we made the decision to close any further forum discussion & comments on COVID-19 moving forward, as the general climate surrounding any discussion regarding COVID-19 had become…

Intrinsic capability, taking advantage of your ability to adapt.
I came across this article in my news feed this morning and it got me thinking. If my head and heart are happy and healthy, then I can just about cope with anything life throws at me and I do! At this time in my life, I am the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been. Why? Retirement, gotta be something said for retiring. It…

Tell me about turkeys
I think turkeys may be the one common type of barnyard fowl we never raised on the farm. How do they compare to chickens or guineas? Will they devour your garden, or can they free range and eat pests? I know they need protection from hawks. If they are as self sufficient as guineas, I'll plan to get some in the spring. If…

Magnet Therapy
I'm studying magnet therapy, not just for my personal benefit but because I think it might help people to do a little online course about it. Anyone here use magnets for pain relief or other conditions? I'll give a brief heads up that they talk a lot about "positive" and "negative" in magnet therapy and sometimes equate…

Black Walnut Syrup...You can tap it anytime
Did you know that you can make a syrup from black walnut sap? I didn't. This excerpt from a larger article gives a little insight. However, the link to the rest doesn't work for me. So, if anyone knows more, please fill me in. I don't know of any of these trees here, but am still wanting to know more.

Garden Art
I absolutely love garden art. It adds fun and interest to a garden or backyard. Change it up and your area has a totally new look. Its supposed to rain Thursday so I plan to take a gourd and make a bird house. I have not decided whether it should have a cottage look with roof and pine needle decoration or if I should make…

Strawberries oh my!
The food bank that shares a parking lot with the company where my husband works had 80lbs of ripe strawberries left when they closed today that they couldn't keep! They asked to dispose of them in dumpster belonging to my husband's company. Long story short after giving some to friends on the way home I now have 60lbs of…

How do you download TGN Academy courses?
I'm a new both to TGN and the idea that food can and should be sustainably sourced, so please be gentle with my ignorance. I attended the webinar yesterday and signed up for the bundle. Since a grid down event is one of my primary motivations for signing up, I'd like to download the courses that are most critical to what…

Fruit drinks
Has anyone experimented with creamy fruit drinks that include yogurt or whole fruits? There is evidence that our bodies' satiety mechanisms don't "see" calories in liquids, so they get added on to solid calories rather than replacing them, making us gain weight. So the best fruit drinks will be more like smoothies than…
