Best restaurant sign I've seen since the pandemic
Yeah, I know not all of us remember the 80's, but the "New Wave" music was fantastic... Talking Heads, Men Without Hats, Men At Work, B52s, Dexie's Midnight Runners, Devo, Simple Minds, A-Ha, Duran Duran, Love and Rockets, Modern English... the phenomenal Pogues...... but, especially the Cars!!!.. listen to Waren Zevon or…

40 Minute Hamburger & Hotdog Buns/Shaping Buns
How to shape buns: 1. You make sure the top of your dough is lightly floured to reduce sticking to your hand. 2. Take a piece of dough about 1/2 of the size that you want your bun to be. 3. Make an "O" with the other hand, thumb and forefinger side up. 4. Put the flour side up dough piece in this hand as you push your…

Vita Mix Composter
Has anyone used this composter from vita-mix? It looks very interesting but is kind of expensive. I could see how it could really help in super small areas and HOAs where a compost bin is not possible.

A Blast from the Past - Marjory Wildcraft and Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad, Poor Dad)
OK, finally got these uploaded! So you might know that at one point in my life I was a professional investor. Years before he was famous for "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", I studied with Robert Kiyosaki. Robert is quite amazing. I won't say I agree with everything he teaches... but he sure helped me understand a lot about…

Suggestions for heart health?
My mom died almost three weeks ago and I've been struggling physically. I have had similar episodes previously, with my heart rate going above 170, when I was very tired and exercised a bit anyhow, but this week it did that after a mild walk for about an hour. My doctor is quite excited about it all, but he did say my…

Loss of Smell and Vitamin D3
My mother-in-law talked about her loss of taste for decades before she died. I had always heard that smell and taste go together, but never heard her talk about her sense of smell. About a year ago (pre-CoVid), I realized that my sense of smell was diminishing. I didn't really take much notice of it as I could (and can…

The problem is the solution - Permaculture
In permaculture you often hear the saying, "The problem is the solution." I look at issues on the property in that regard. This is my problem, how do I use it to fix it to be the solution? My house sits too close to the road. With 17 acres, give or take, it would be nice if the house was located in the side field or…

Who likes Goat curry?
These days we eat little red meat. It has to be organic and grass fed before we touch it. A little while back, I found some organic goat meat (bone in) at a local butcher. Yesterday I made a massaman goat curry, with carrots, choko and tomatoes from our garden. Left it a day and reheated tonight. Got to say it was yummo!

Has anyone successfully gotten a mat out of waist length hair?
Not quite a home medicine question, and I will be re-hitting the web for more options, but a couple people in my family have been trying to unmat a chunk of hair that seems hopelessly matted. We’ve tried deep conditioners, detanglers, marshmallow homemade detangler, wide tooth comb... it sprang up quickly and set in hard.…

Very weird chicken experience.......
So today I noticed that one of my hens was just standing in the corner of the run and not looking great. It has been VERY hot the past two days and I figured it was just that. Then I though that maybe she was plugged up. So I checked and she was not plugged up. So then I thought that maybe she had an egg in there that…

Extended lactation
I will be cross posting this to both goats & cattle. We do an extended lactation with our cows & then give the one milking a break (& get her bred) & milk the other for a couple of years, then get her bred. That is why we have more than one cow. A cow will give the most milk after calf #3. Yet this article says with their…

Do you blend spices yourself? What are your favourite spice mixtures? I love herbes de provence. I am about to make a my new blend as most of the herbs are available in my garden. Peanut Butter Coconut Icecream (dairy free, and fun mix-ins!)
I made this yesterday, and while I don't have the recipe perfectly worked out, I thought it was good enough to share. For some of my dairy-free ice cream I manage to get the coconut flavor in the background. It was definitely prominent here, but in a good way. The flavor kind of reminded me of a chick-o-stick; which might…

Sour Corn... have you tried it?
I was talking with a guy who was selling fresh sweet corn today, about ways to preserve corn. He had never heard of "sour corn", but the old mountain folks used to make it when I was a kid, and it is MIGHTY good! Basically, you take fresh corn, cut the kernels off the cob and ferment it like sauerkraut. It is sweet, sour,…

How fast can you run if need be? Fast, and that's the naked truth (story) Part one.
When I lived in North Carolina I had a very stressful job. My weekends were spent by the lake looking for arrowheads and just enjoying the shore and waves. The one lake reminded me of home. It had previously had homes there but the government bought the land and put in a small dam, flooding towns and homes. This was my…
