I forgot to collect eggs, and this happened!
I have so much food growing! Serious abundance. I got busy with projects.... forgot to collect eggs for a few weeks (the chickens were well fed though), and this is what happened!

First egg of the season!
I found the first egg of the season yesterday. I was surprised and happy with the price of feed my girls need to produce well to just cover feed costs. I am not sure if it's one of the new hens or one of the older ones. Its earlier than normal this year by one month and I hope the gals continue to lay. It was one of my…

"Egg in a Hole" - what do you call it?
A quick and convenient breakfast for kids (or adults) is to cut a hole in the center of a slice of bread and place it on a hot, buttered pan - as always though, not too hot; don’t burn the butter. Crack an egg into the hole and either break the yolk or not. After it fries on one side, flip it over and let the other side…

Bird Flu
PCR testing chickens all over the world and destroying flocks as well as backyard chickens. Leads right into all the fake lab grown meat. Not sure what else to say except this is terrible!

Too many eggs. Any recipes for lots of eggs?
Normally at this time, I would be hatching chicks and selling eating eggs. I don't have my chickens separated yet (kind of slow here), and the kids' regular egg buyers are not accessible right now due to Covid. This gives us a lot of eggs, and it looks like as of today, that more have started laying. We have 9 1/2 dozen in…

which breed would be the best for maximum amount of egg production?
Hi. My name is Michelle. I am from Long Island NY and am planning on starting my first chicken coop. I am nervous but excited. I would like to know which breeds would be the best for egg production. I want fat birds so they can't hop fences.

New favorite breakfast: Eggs Cocotte
I love eggs and sourdough bread with plenty of butter for breakfast. I have usually done my eggs soft scrambled in bacon grease or a simple omelet. A week or so ago though, I had just a little leftover salmon and a few stalks of sauteed asparagus leftover from dinner and I just didn't feel like dirtying up a lot of stuff,…

Frozen Chicken Eggs
Here is some good advice. It covers how to prevent frozen eggs and if you find some, what to do. What to do with them depends on the severity of the freezing of the egg. http://backyardpoultry.iamcountryside.com/eggs-meat/preventing-frozen-chicken-eggs

Meet my new...Jumbo Coturnix Quail
Again, here I am with something new to me. No surprise, birds again. I guess I have a bird brain. 😆 We paid for 15, were handed 20 (white & regular colored), along with 2 doz. free eggs to hatch. I guess that means that I hatch my own birds' eggs later...and I hope all of these eggs fit in my tiny incubator. They go in…

Very weird chicken experience.......
So today I noticed that one of my hens was just standing in the corner of the run and not looking great. It has been VERY hot the past two days and I figured it was just that. Then I though that maybe she was plugged up. So I checked and she was not plugged up. So then I thought that maybe she had an egg in there that…

Poultry Clubs/Swaps/Auction sites (US & other countries welcomed)
Orpington Club (North America): Here is a forum with egg swaps, etc., but it looks like it might be old, so I am not sure if it is of use. https://americanorpington.proboards.com You can look up (your state or closest city) Poultry Swaps, & online egg auctions as well. I can't vouch for what link are below as I only found…

Freezing Eggs
Two years ago when I was up to my eyeballs in fresh eggs, I decided to try freezing some as an experiment for preservation for use during the downtime of winter. Being that I make a frittata most weeks, I chose to do a dozen eggs at a time. So I lightly whipped them up, some I added a bit of sea salt to and others I…

Rubbery Egg Texture
Has anyone noticed a slightly rubbery texture in their farm fresh eggs? Our girls started laying in the winter, and they're just eating grain now because everything is covered in snow. We think maybe the rubbery texture will go away in the spring when they start eating grass. We'll have to see. Any thoughts? Thank you!

How to tell if eggs are bad
This post is not about the refrigerate or not debate, even though it is touched upon. This article suggests candling over the float test to check for good eggs.

Christmas Chicks! Serama eggs have been set, now hatching!
I have 7 eggs set. I will add one tomorrow if she lays. Lockdown will be Dec. 15th, with hatch to follow Dec. 16-18 if all goes well. Pure serama eggs are not known for their great hatch rate nor chick viability in the first 24 hr. My hen still doesn't know what the eggs are. She announces & so does the rooster (in a lot…

🥚 Avgolemono 🍋 | A clever way to use up those extra eggs!
Let me preface this with...I'm not Greek. But, I do ♥💓♥ me some Greek food! It may be one of my favorite cuisines! And while I may not do this recipe justice, at least in the traditional sense, it still tastes amazing and is a clever way to use up an abundance of eggs! ___________ My husband, Mark and I, have had the…
