Trees for Sap & Syrup
A subject came up in another thread about the use of trees other than maple for sap/syrup production. I made my own birch syrup a few years ago. We have producers of birch sap in my area and they make other things with it as well. Candies, BBQ sauce, etc. Another local company, 52 North, is doing quite well selling a…

Sap Collecting Time
I just realized it's that time of year again - time to collect the maple sap/water. Well, I call it maple water as it is mostly water that is collected and then turned into syrup - if I get that far. Its time to make your own: Maple Syrup
If you can, it is also time to try to make your own maple syrup or other tree syrup this coming spring. You don't want to kill the trees, so if you are in a drought area, be mindful of how much you take from each tree. I have no idea how prices will be affected by this release. I assume the prices will be higher than…

Black Walnut Syrup...You can tap it anytime
Did you know that you can make a syrup from black walnut sap? I didn't. This excerpt from a larger article gives a little insight. However, the link to the rest doesn't work for me. So, if anyone knows more, please fill me in. I don't know of any of these trees here, but am still wanting to know more.
