Onions and how on earth can I grow them!
This year again I tried bunching onions and shallots. I planted them near each other and to tell you the truth I have no idea if they are in amongst the greens or not. I need to get out tomorrow and get the greens picked. Last year I planted onions and nothing happened. Do I need to prepare the soil differently

Greens and Problems
I just planted my greens at the end of last week. I did have a bird that dropped a seed of beet greens which has turned into a hybrid of some kind. Another seed was planted in my garden box and it was a Swiss Chard seed. I transplanted it and it has ginormous leaves. The neighborhood chat called Next Door had a comment…

Rainbow Chow Mein
Over the Xmas New year period & with plenty of visitors & comings & goings, I found my diet a little upended. Yes I bought a large leg of ham to feed the multitudes & still have plenty left over (will freeze some very soon) we had…

Pill Bugs AKA Rolly Polly Bugs Invaded My Garden
OMG!! I've had so many issues with bugs this year! These things have invaded my garden beds and eaten most of my kale, chard, collards, & broccoli seedlings! Apparently seedlings are their favorite food when there isn't enough moisture. We haven't had rain like we did this summer but I've been watering. Sigh... That must…

My 2022 Gardening Plans
Judson got me thinking about my 2022 Gardening Plans - some of my seedlings survived the critters and windstorm last year and are doing well. Today I started both some new seeds and some seeds I tried last Fall (that for whatever reason did not make it). I am really excited to see how the Belaris Broccoli does, right now…

Parsnip loaf cake
Yes, I will definitely be making this. Our garden blessed us with so many parsnips! I am usually happy putting butter on my parsnips or adding them to soup, stew or stock, but I ran across this idea and so just had to find a recipe. So, I found this recipe for a parsnip sheet cake, but didn't want to sign in for yet…

Creating Gleaning Co-operatives
The article below got me thinking how a person could possibly set up a gleaning cooperative. In my general area, there is a group that picks fruit. I am not sure if they pick vegetables too. I do not like how they are organized as they actually take opportunities away from those who may need it. They pick as a group when…

Gray Hair Rinse
To help with Gray Hair: I found this post in Lost Herbs-Make a Gray Hair Rinse: Potato peels have long been used as a home remedy for graying hair. 10 vegetable you can grow in 40 days or less
Fast growing veggies can often be used to extend your growing season, make better use of garden space and I often grow these in containers, both indoors and out. By growing indoors I can extend my season and how much I may be able to put away or use fresh.

Celeriac
Who has grown celeriac before? I see I should have started it earlier and that it takes 100 days. I can still start it and hope it does well. It may be low temps (fall nights) can make it bolt? I was also wondering if I should stagger planting dates?

Emulsifiers-Good or Bad?
I read about a new emulsifier that is being added to food and hasn't been tested yet. I remember it started with a T. Vegetable Stock from Frozen Scraps
I don't know how well you know me. But, I am totally into not wasting any part of the vegetable or the animal! And, since I currently do not have a compost... I know, it's a terrible tragedy. What to use at the bottom of a Smartpots Urban Raised bed?
Other than sticks. will leaves and card board work for a SmartPots Urban Raised bed? It's a 4x4 Fabric container stood up with PVC for stability. I heard sticks are good, but since it has a bottom, I'm wondering if cardboard and leaves can be used as well. Thank you.

Zucchini horror stories
I was watching Lynn and Marjories garden series @Marjory Wildcraft put up for us to watch today. They were talking about the importance of garden planning and what to plant and "squash " came up.
